Claims
- 1. A fluid flow control device comprising
- a first sleeve;
- a second sleeve in fluid-tight engagement with said first sleeve; and
- a membrane disposed across an interior cross-section of said engaged sleeves and secured along less than its full circumference, said membrane being flexible in a first direction so that the portion of the membrane circumference which is not so secured can flex in said first direction to allow fluid flow in said first direction through said sleeves, said membrane resisting fluid flow in the opposite direction through said sleeves.
- 2. The fluid flow control device of claim 1 wherein one end of said first sleeve has an outer diameter so sized and dimensioned to fit within an end of said second sleeve in fluid-tight engagement.
- 3. The fluid flow control device of claim 2 wherein the inner surface of said second sleeve is provided with a shoulder for engagement of the circumference of said membrane, such that any fluid flowing through said sleeves in said opposite direction will urge said membrane against said shoulder, whereby said membrane will resist said fluid flow in said opposite direction.
- 4. The fluid flow control device of claim 3 wherein said end of said first sleeve that fits within said second sleeve further comprises a projection along a partial circumference of said first sleeve, said projection being sized and dimensioned to securely engage said portion of said membrane circumference against said shoulder of said second sleeve.
- 5. The fluid flow control device of claim 1 wherein said membrane is made of a urethane material.
- 6. The fluid flow control device of claim 5 wherein said membrane is about 0.006 inches thick.
- 7. The fluid flow control device of claim 1 wherein said first sleeve, said second sleeve, and said membrane are each substantially circular in cross section.
- 8. A fluid flow control device comprising
- a first sleeve having a partial circumferential projection at one end thereof;
- a second sleeve having a shoulder on the interior surface thereof, said first and second sleeves being sized and dimensioned relative to one another so that said one end of said first sleeve fits within an end of said second sleeve in fluid-tight engagement, and said partial circumferential projection is aligned with said shoulder; and
- a flexible membrane sized to fit against said shoulder and being secured along a portion of its circumference between said partial circumferential projection and said shoulder, such that said membrane flexes at the unsecured portion of the circumference thereof to permit fluid flow from said second sleeve through said first sleeve, but fits against said shoulder to resist fluid flow from said first sleeve through said second sleeve.
- 9. The fluid flow control device of claim 8 wherein said end of said first sleeve has a region of a reduced outer diameter to fit within said second sleeve.
- 10. The fluid flow control device of claim 9 wherein said region of reduced outer diameter of said first sleeve terminates in a shoulder which abuts the end of said second sleeve.
- 11. The fluid flow control device of claim 8 wherein said first sleeve, said second sleeve, and said membrane are each substantially circular in cross section.
- 12. The fluid flow control device of claim 8 wherein said membrane is made of a urethane material.
- 13. The fluid flow control device of claim 12 wherein said membrane is about 0.006 inches thick.
