Claims
- 1. A pneumatic thermostat comprising means for reducing a variable pressure air supply to a substantially constant pressure air supply and means for generating from said constant pressure air supply an air pressure signal indicative of ambient temperature; said reducing means having means defining an air input port in communication with a first chamber, means defining a first air output port in communication with a second chamber, means for intermittently bleeding said first chamber to said second chamber so as to maintain a substantially constant pressure in said first chamber, and a restricted nozzle for continuously bleeding a substantially constant air supply from said first chamber; and said generating means having a housing which defines a third chamber in communication with said restricted nozzle, means for bleeding said third chamber to said second chamber at varying rates in response to changes in ambient temperature so as to produce a corresponding varying pressure within said third chamber, and means defining a second air output port in communication with said third chamber through which said air pressure signal may be transmitted from said thermostat, said signal corresponding to the pressure within said third chamber and indicative of the ambient temperature.
- 2. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein said means for intermittently bleeding said first chamber includes a flexible diaphragm having an opening which defined an air flow passageway between said first and second chambers, and means for providing a predetermined force which holds said diaphragm in removable engagement with a nozzle, said passageway being closed when said diaphragm engages said nozzle.
- 3. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein said means for bleeding said third chamber to said second chamber at varying rates includes at least one bi-metallic bellows which is responsive to change in ambient temperature by expansion and compression, said bi-metallic bellows being sealably connected at one end to said housing and at its other end to an elongated rod which extends through said bellows into said housing; and a nozzle defining an air flow passageway from said third chamber to said second chamber; a flapper mounted on one end of said rod within said housing and positioned adjacent to said nozzle so as to partially inhibit the bleeding of air therethrough.
- 4. The thermostat of claim 3, wherein said bi-metallic bellows is sensitive to changes in the pressure within said housing.
- 5. The thermostat of claim 3, wherein two bi-metallic bellows are utilized.
- 6. The thermostat of claim 3, wherein said flapper is movably mounted on said rod so as to provide self-alignment with said nozzle.
