Claims
- 1. An implantable medical device comprising:
a shock lead system including at least one shock lead; gain adjuster means for automatically adjusting a gain value for the shock lead system comprising:
a sensing means for sensing cardiovascular activity; an amplifying means for amplifying the output of the sensing means; a data storage means for storing data output from the amplifying means; and a threshold determining means for producing a gain based on the data stored in the data storage means; and wherein a gain for the shock lead system is automatically adjusted by the gain adjuster means if the gain has not been set within a first period of time.
- 2. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the first period of time is a predetermined time after the implantable medical device is implanted.
- 3. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the first period of time is a predetermined time after the implantable medical device is taken out of storage mode.
- 4. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the implantable medical device is an pacing and defibrillation device.
- 5. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the implantable medical device is a defibrillator.
- 6. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the shock lead system further comprises at least one pacing electrode.
- 7. The implantable medical device of claim 1, wherein the gain adjuster means further comprises detection means for detecting a peak value from the data stored in the data storage means, and the threshold determining means is for producing a gain based on the peak value.
- 8. An implantable medical device comprising:
a storage location for storing and setting a gain in a storage mode and a nonstorage mode; a shock lead system including at least one shock electrode; and an automatic gain adjusting system, coupled to the shock lead system, the automatic gain adjusting system including:
a detector, communicatively coupled to the storage location, to detect whether the gain value for the shock lead system was user-programmed when the implantable medical device was implanted; and a gain determining module, communicatively coupled to the detector and the storage location, to produce and store a new gain value if the gain value was not user-programmed when the implantable medical device was implanted.
- 9. The implantable medical device of claim 8, wherein the gain determining module comprises:
a sensing system coupled to the shock lead system; an amplifier coupled to the sensing system; a data storage device coupled to the amplifier; and a threshold producer coupled to the data storage device and the amplifier.
- 10. The implantable medical device of claim 9, wherein the amplifier is a shock channel amplifier.
- 11. The implantable medical device of claim 9, wherein the data storage device includes a data register.
- 12. The implantable medical device of claim 8, wherein the implantable medical device is an implantable pacing and defibrillation device.
- 13. The implantable medical device of claim 8, wherein the implantable medical device is an implantable defibrillator.
- 14. The implantable medical device of claim 8, wherein the shock lead system further comprises at least one pacing electrode.
- 15. A system including an implantable medical device, the implantable medical device comprising:
an amplifier with a gain; a storage location, coupled to the amplifier, to store the gain; a data storage, coupled to an output of the amplifier, to store data received therefrom, the data being collected for a predetermined period of time; a peak detector to detect the maximum value of the data collected in the data storage; and a gain determining module, coupled to the peak detector, to produce a new gain determination based on at least the maximum value.
- 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the implantable device is a cardiac pacing and defibrillation device.
- 17. The system of claim 15, wherein the implantable device is a cardiac defibrillator.
- 18. The system of claim 15, further comprising a lead system, including at least one electrode coupled to an input of the amplifier.
- 19. The system of claim 18, wherein the electrode includes a shock electrode.
- 20. The system of claim 18, wherein the electrode includes a pacing electrode.
- 21. The system of claim 15, wherein the gain determining module calculates a new value of the gain based on at least one of the maximum value of the data collected in the data storage, a scaling percentage, a constant, and an initial value of the gain.
- 22. The system of claim 15, wherein the gain determining module calculates the new value of the gain upon a selection of a new scaling percentage.
- 23. The system of claim 22, further including an external programmer communicating the selection of the new scaling percentage to the implantable medical device
