- 2. The system of claim 1 further comprising an automatically powered driving mechanism operably moving the first panel.
- 3. The system of claim 2 wherein at least one of the mechanisms includes an electric motor and a flexible cable.
- 4. The system of claim 2 further comprising an electrical control system connected to the mechanisms automatically moving the second panel in response to desired movement of the first panel.
- 5. The system of claim 1 further comprising a second movable sunroof panel located forward of the first panel when the first panel is in its closed position.
- 6. The system of claim 5 wherein the first panel is substantially parallel and overlapping with the third panel when the first panel is in its open position.
- 7. The system of claim 1 wherein the first panel is a back window assembly.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the first panel is a sunroof assembly.
- 9. The system of claim 1 further comprising a passenger seat, the lifting mechanism operably lowering the second panel at least partially into the seat.
- 10. The system of claim 1 wherein at least a majority of the second panel is transparent.
- 11. The system of claim 1 wherein the open position of the first panel is higher than the closed position of the first panel.
- 12. The system of claim 1 wherein the second panel is oriented on a substantially cross-car and vertical plane.
- 13. The system of claim 1 further comprising:
a tilting mechanism coupled to the first panel; and an actuator operably driving the tilting mechanism to move the first panel between a closed position and a tilted venting position.
- 14. A system for use in an automotive vehicle having a roof line and side rails, the system comprising:
a passenger compartment; a first panel movable from a closed position to an open position, the first panel at least partially covering the passenger compartment when the first panel is in at least one of its positions; a second panel movable in a substantially vertical direction from a retracted position to an advanced position, the second panel extending substantially in a cross-vehicle orientation; an automatically powered actuator assembly operably moving the second panel; an upper edge of the second panel being located adjacent the roof line when the second panel is in its advanced position; a storage compartment located behind the second panel, the storage compartment being openly accessible from the passenger compartment when the second panel is in its retracted position; and a front passenger seat and a rear passenger seat located in the passenger compartment substantially forward of the second panel.
- 15. The system of claim 14 further comprising an automatically powered driver operably moving the first panel.
- 16. The system of claim 15 wherein the actuator assembly includes an electric motor and a flexible cable.
- 17. The system of claim 15 further comprising an electrical control system automatically causing the actuator assembly to move the second panel in response to desired movement of the first panel.
- 18. The system of claim 14 further comprising a movable sunroof panel located forward of the first panel when the first panel is in its closed position.
- 19. The system of claim 18 wherein the first panel is substantially parallel and overlapping with the sunroof panel when the first panel is in its open position.
- 20. The system of claim 18 wherein the first panel is also a movable sunroof assembly.
- 21. The system of claim 14 wherein the first panel is a back window assembly.
- 22. The system of claim 14 wherein the actuator assembly operably lowers the second panel at least partially into the rear seat.
- 23. The system of claim 14 wherein at least a majority of the second panel is transparent.
- 24. The system of claim 14 wherein the open position of the first panel is higher than the closed position of the first panel.
- 25. The system of claim 14 further comprising tracks, wherein the second panel is movably raised on a substantially cross-vehicle and vertical plane, and operably slides within the tracks when advanced and retracted.
- 26. An automotive vehicle comprising:
a passenger compartment having a front seat and a rear seat, the rear seat having a movable seat back; a storage compartment located rearward of the passenger compartment, the storage compartment being accessible from both the passenger compartment and externally from the rear of the storage compartment; and a substantially transparent panel movable from a retracted position, allowing open access from the passenger compartment to the storage compartment, to a raised position, substantially separating the passenger compartment from the storage compartment; the seat back of the rear seat being foldable to allow supplemental storage above the rear seat when the panel is retracted.
- 27. The vehicle of claim 26 wherein the storage compartment is upwardly open in a pickup truck-like manner in one configuration.
- 28. The vehicle of claim 27 wherein the storage compartment is externally enclosed in a sedan-like manner when in a second configuration.
- 29. The vehicle of claim 27 wherein the panel is automatically raised when the storage compartment is externally opened.
- 30. The vehicle of claim 26 further comprising an automatically movable back window assembly, the panel being movable to its raised position when the back window assembly is opened wherein an upper edge of the panel substantially seals against a member located at a roof line.
- 31. The vehicle of claim 30 wherein the back window assembly includes the member, and the upper edge of the panel operably seals against the member.
- 32. The vehicle of claim 26 wherein the panel extends in a substantially cross-vehicle and vertical plane.
- 33. The vehicle of claim 26 further comprising an automatic actuator operably moving the back of the rear seat.
