Claims
- 1. A seat only for a single driver or single passenger of an automotive vehicle comprising:
- (a) back cushion means presenting a geometrical contour only for said single driver or single passenger;
- (b) seat cushion means presenting a geometrical contour only for said single driver or single passenger;
- (c) electromechanical means; and
- (d) operational means coupled to said electromechanical means;
- (e) said seat cushion means including stationary cushion means and transport cushion means, said stationary cushion means providing a portion of said geometrical contour of said seat cushion means;
- (f) said transport cushion means being constrained for movement in an arcuate path between a retracted position and an extended position when actuated by said operational means;
- (g) said operational means including telescoping means to move said transport cushion means in said arcuate path;
- (h) said operational means including manual actuating means for maintaining movement between said retracted position and said extended position when under constant manual control;
- (i) said actuating means being accessible to said constant manual control in close proximity to said transport cushion means.
- 2. The seat of claim 1 wherein said electromechanical means comprises as electric motor and circuitry for coupling said motor to a battery of said vehicle.
- 3. The seat of claim 2 wherein said electromechanical means further includes rotational drive means operatively connected to said motor.
- 4. The seat of claim 3 wherein said rotational drive means comprises pulley means and a roller operable by said pulley means.
- 5. The seat of claim 1 wherein said operational means further includes cable-drive means operatively coupled to said telescoping means.
- 6. The seat of claim 1 wherein said telescoping means comprises an arcuate member and an extension member operatively disposed in one end of said arcuate member, and drive means for moving both said members when actuated by said electromechanical means.
- 7. The seat of claim 1 wherein said manual actuating means are recessively mounted on said transport cushion means.
- 8. A seat only for use by a single person comprising:
- (a) a back cushion presenting a substantially continuous contour for accommodating said single person;
- (b) a seat cushion assemblage presenting a substantially continuous contour for accommodating said single person;
- (c) said seat cushion assemblage including stationary cushion means and transport cushion means, said stationary cushion means providing a portion of said geometrical contour of said seat cushion assemblage;
- (d) an electrical control circuit coupled to an electromechanical means; and
- (e) a mechanical movement;
- (f) said mechanical movement constraining said transport cushion in a path between a retracted position contiguous with said stationary cushion and an extended position removed from said stationary cushion;
- (g) said electrical control circuit including a switch for maintaining movement between said retracted position and said extended position only when under manual contact;
- (h) said switch being accessible to said single person by being mounted on said transport cushion;
- (i) said mechanical movement including rotary drive means and cable-drive means coupled to said electrical control circuit for moving said transport cushion between said positions.
- 9. The seat of claim 8 wherein said mechanical movement further includes an arcuate member and an extension member telescopically mounted in said arcuate member, both said members being actuable by said cable-drive means.
- 10. The seat of claim 8 wherein the transverse width along the front edge of said seat is such that the transverse width of said lift cushion is no greater than one-half of the transverse width of said seat cushion assemblage.
- 11. The seat of claim 8 wherein said electromechanical means comprises a frame supporting said seat, a battery, an electric motor coupled to said battery via said electrical control circuit, and means for transmitting power from said motor to said mechanical movement.
- 12. The seat of claim 9 wherein said mechanical movement further includes spring means disposed in said arcuate member and connected to said extension member to return said extension member into said arcuate member when said transport cushion is moved into said retracted position.
- 13. The seat of claim 8 wherein a handle bar is constrained for pivotal movement between an orientation at which a person seated on the transport cushion is free to move therefrom and a transverse orientation at which a person seated on the transport cushion is restrained thereon.
- 14. In a seat for a driver or a passenger of an automotive vehicle comprising:
- (a) a back cushion for retaining said driver;
- (b) a seat cushion assemblage for seating said driver, said seat cushion assemblage including a stationary cushion and a lift cushion;
- (c) an electromechanical system for positioning said lift cushion;
- (d) an operational system for controlling said electromechanical system;
- (e) said lift cushion being constrained for movement in a path between a retracted position and an extended position;
- (f) said lift cushion, when in retracted position, presenting, together with said stationary cushion, a substantially geometrically continuous upper seating surface;
- (g) said operational system including a manual actuator for maintaining movement between said retracted position and said extended position when under constant manual control;
- (h) said actuator being accessible to said constant manual control in close proximity to said lift cushion;
- (i) the transverse width along the front edge of said seat being such that the transverse width of said lift cushion is no greater than one half the transverse width of said stationary cushion;
- the improvement comprising:
- (j) an arcuate member and an extension member operatively mounted for translatory motion in one end thereof and carrying said lift cushion; and
- (k) cable-drive means operatively connecting said arcuate member to said electromechanical system;
- (l) said electromechanical system including a motor for effecting said movement of said lift cushion in an arcuate path.
- 15. The seat of claim 14 wherein said operational system includes a safety switch which permits energization of said motor only during manual actuation.
- 16. The seat of claim 14 wherein said operational system includes a pair of limit switches to arrest the movement of said lift cushion when it reaches its said retracted and extended positions.
