Claims
- 1. A prepackaged blood collection unit comprising.a collection unit for collecting blood, the collection unit including a blood inlet connectable to a patient drainage tube; a flexible, at least partly transparent, protective wrap disposed about and circumscribing the collection unit and extending longitudinally beyond the ends of the collection unit, the length of the protective wrap being approximately twice the length of the collection unit; whereby the collection unit may be handled and placed in operation to collect blood from the patient while the protective wrap may prevent blood from contacting the collection unit and the protective wrap thereafter can be removed to expose the collection unit in a clean, blood free presentation; and a suction evacuator removably mounted to the collection unit.
- 2. A prepackaged blood collection unit as defined in claim 1 wherein the suction evacuator is resiliently distendable and compressible and wherein the protective wrap circumscribes both the collection unit and the suction evacuator, the protective wrap being dimensioned to fit snugly about both the collection unit and evacuator when the evacuator is distended, the protective wrap also being dimensioned to fit loosely about the collection unit and evacuator when the evacuator is compressed to be slidably movable relative to the collection unit and evacuator.
- 3. A prepackaged blood collection unit comprising:a collection unit for collecting blood, the collection unit including a blood inlet connectable to a patient drainage tube; a flexible, at least partly transparent, protective wrap disposed about and circumscribing the collection unit and extending longitudinally beyond the ends of the collection unit, the length of the protective wrap being approximately twice the length of the collection unit; whereby the collection unit may be handled and placed in operation to collect blood from the patient while the protective wrap may prevent blood from contacting the collection unit and the protective wrap thereafter can be removed to expose the collection unit in a clean, blood free presentation; and the collection unit having a blood outlet port from which collected blood can be transferred for reinfusion into the patient whereby the protective wrap may prevent blood from contacting the collection unit while the device is handled to effect transfer of blood through the outlet.
