Claims
- 1. An artificial heart inserted in a ventricle of a human heart having an aorta valve, including:
(1) a cylindrical cardiac apex ring fixedly embedded in a cardiac apex of said human heart after said cardiac apex has been cut; and (2) a main body of said auxiliary artificial heart comprising:
(a) an axial flow type cylindrical pump section having a proximal end and a distal end and inserted in said ventricle of said human heart through said cardiac apex ring; (b) a nozzle section extending outward from said distal end of said pump section and inserted in an aorta of a human body through said aorta valve in said human heart; (c) a driving section having a driving shaft provided on said proximal end of said pump section and externally of said human heart, for driving said pump via said driving shaft, said driving shaft having an outer peripheral surface; (d) a sealing mechanism provided between said driving section and said pump section, for maintaining said driving shaft in a liquid tight state and preventing blood from entering said driving section from said pump section; and (e) a sealing liquid chamber surrounding said driving shaft between said sealing mechanism and said driving section, said sealing liquid chamber being filled with a sealing liquid.
- 2. The artificial heart according to claim 1, wherein said sealing mechanism has an oil seal made of elastic material closely fitted on said outer peripheral surface of said driving shaft and formed with a lubricating film of said sealing liquid between said oil seal and said outer peripheral surface of said driving shaft.
- 3. The artificial heart according to claim 2, wherein said outer peripheral surface of said driving shaft is covered with a coating film comprising plated metal and fine particles made of tetrafluoroethylene and derivatives thereof distributed in said plated metal.
- 4. The artificial heart according to claim 1, wherein the surfaces of components which contact blood and/or other body fluids is covered with a coating film comprising plated metal and fine particles of tetrafluoroethylene and derivatives thereof distributed in said plated metal.
- 5. The artificial heart according to claim 1, further comprising a sealing liquid bag made of flexible material, filled with said sealing liquid and embedded in said human body, said sealing liquid chamber being connected to said sealing liquid bag.
- 6. The artificial heart according to claim 1, wherein said driving section is provided with a dynamic-pressure seal bearing for supporting said driving shaft and delivering said sealing liquid toward said sealing liquid chamber by a dynamic pressure generated by rotation of said dynamic-pressure seal bearing so as to maintain said driving section in a liquid tight state, said sealing liquid is formed between said dynamic-pressure seal bearing and said sealing mechanism, and said driving section is filled with a gas.
- 7. The artificial heart according to claim 6, wherein said dynamic-pressure seal bearing is made of ceramic material.
- 8. The artificial heart according to claim 6, wherein said dynamic-pressure seal bearing comprises a rotary-side unit and a fixed-side unit, each having a cylindrical portion for receiving radial load and a flange portion for receiving thrust load, and dynamic-pressure generating grooves are formed in the cylindrical and flange portions of at least said rotary-side unit.
- 9. The artificial heart according to claim 1, further comprising a dynamic-pressure seal bearing at a distal end of said driving shaft, said dynamic-pressure seal bearing functioning as a micropump for supplying the sealing liquid from said sealing liquid chamber to said sealing mechanism in small amounts.
- 10. The artificial hear according to claim 9, wherein said dynamic-pressure seal bearing is made of ceramic material.
- 11. The artificial heart according to claim 9, wherein said dynamic-pressure seal bearing comprises a cylindrical portion for receiving radial load, and dynamic-pressure generating grooves are formed in an outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion of said dynamic-pressure seal.
- 12. The artificial heart according to claim 1, wherein said driving section has an interior filled with said sealing liquid, and said sealing liquid chamber extends to said interior of said driving section.
- 13. The artificial heart according to claim 12, further comprising a sealing liquid bag made of flexible material and filled with said sealing liquid, said sealing liquid chamber communicating with said sealing liquid bag through a plurality of pipes so as to cause said sealing liquid to circulate through said sealing liquid chamber and said sealing liquid bag.
- 14. The artificial heart according to claim 13, further comprising vane projections formed adjacent to said sealing mechanism on said outer peripheral surface of said driving shaft, for agitating said sealing liquid therearound.
