Claims
- 1. A sealing apparatus, comprising:
- flexible seal means, generally circular and defining at least one radial hole in the circumference thereof, and adapted for placement about a circuit member for sealing same; and
- restraining means, generally circular and defining at least one radial hole in the circumference thereof, disposed concentrically with said seal means about said circular member for securement of said seal means thereon; wherein
- said seal means and said restraining means may be disposed relative one another for registry of their respective holes;
- said circular member comprises an extension of an inner race of a bearing assembly, and said apparatus includes means for securing said assembly to a rotatable shaft; and
- said restraining means comprises a metal band and associated licknut mechanism for tightening same about said flexible seal means so as to secure such seal means about said inner race.
- 2. A sealing apparatus, comprising:
- flexible seal means, generally circular and defining at least one radial hole in the circumference thereof, and adapted for placement about a circular member for sealing same; and
- restraining means, generally circular and defining at least one radial hole in the circumference thereof, disposed concentrically with said seal means about said circular member for securement of said seal means thereon; wherein
- said seal means and said restraining means may be disposed relative one another for registry of their respective holes;
- said circular member comprises an extension of an inner race of a bearing assembly receivable about a shaft, and having primary sealing means for sealing inner and outer races of the bearing assembly; and wherein
- said flexible seal means is mounted axially outward from said primary sealing means, and defines a predetermined sealing face on at least one surface thereof turned toward said primary sealing means for operative association with same and for sealing thereat; and further wherein
- said flexible seal means is mounted for rotation with the inner race and the shaft, so as to generate centrifugal force which directs fluid and solid contaminants away from said bearing assembly.
