Claims
- 1. An axially stiff link comprising,
- two shaft segments,
- a shaft rolling element with transverse flat ends attached to each of the shaft segments,
- two cylindroidal rolling elements axially disposed between and having rolling line contact with the shaft rolling elements,
- the shaft rolling elements having curved ring spring engaging portions extending radially on opposing sides of the shaft segments,
- a ring spring encompassing the adjacent ring spring engaging portions, and the cylindroidal rolling element engaging the ring spring engaging portions by rolling line contact and preloading the shaft rolling elements.
- 2. An axially stiff link as in claim 1 wherein,
- the ring spring is distorted to an elliptcal shape when engaging the ring spring engaging portions of the shaft segments.
- 3. An axially stiff link as in claim 1 wherein,
- the two cylindroidal rolling elements are symmetrically radially disposed on opposite sides of the shaft rolling element.
- 4. An axially stiff link as in claim 3 wherein,
- the two cylindroidal rolling elements have rounded ends for hertzian contact with each other at the center of the shaft rolling element.
- 5. An axially stiff link as in claim 3 wherein,
- the ring springs have an extension for contacting the cylindroidal rolling elements and retaining the cylindroidal rolling elements between the ring springs.
- 6. An axially stiff link as in claim 5 wherein,
- there is a means for connecting one ring spring to the other to secure the ring springs on the ring spring engaging portion of the shaft rolling element.
- 7. An axially stiff link as in claim 3 wherein,
- an alignment insert extends into the centering bar between the ring springs to align the centering bar with respect to the rolling element.
- 8. An axially stiff link as in claim 1 wherein,
- the cylindroidal rolling element has a centering bar between the cylindroidal rolling element and the ring spring on two sides of the cylindroidal rolling element for centering the cylindroidal rolling element between the shaft rolling elements.
- 9. An axially stiff link as in claim 8 wherein,
- an alignment insert extends into the centering bar between the ring springs to align the centering bar with respect to the rolling element.
- 10. An axially stiff link as in claim 1 wherein,
- the two cylindroidal rolling elements are cylinders.
- 11. An axially stiff link comprising,
- two shaft segments,
- a shaft rolling element with flat conic segment ends attached to each of the shaft segments,
- two frustum rolling elements disposed between and having rolling line contact with the shaft rolling elements,
- the shaft rolling elements having curved transverse ring spring engaging portions extending radially on opposing sides of the shaft segments,
- a ring spring encompassing the adjacent ring spring engaging portion, and the frustum rolling element by rolling line contact and preloading the shaft rolling elements.
- 12. An axially stiff link as in claim 11 wherein,
- the ring spring is distorted to an elliptcal shape when engaging the ring spring engaging portions of the shaft segments.
- 13. An axially stiff link as in claim 11 wherein,
- the two frustum rolling elements are symmetrical radially disposed on opposite sides of the shaft rolling element.
- 14. An axially stiff link as in claim 13 wherein,
- the ring springs have an extension for contacting the frustrum rolling elements and retaining the frustum rolling elements between the ring springs.
- 15. An axially stiff link as in claim 14 wherein,
- there is a means for connecting one spring ring to the other to secure the ring springs on the ring spring engaging portion of the shaft rolling element.
