Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR10## wherein R.sub.4 represents a lower alkyl group;
- R.sub.5 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, or benzyl;
- R.sub.6 represents hydrogen, nitro, lower alkoxy, halo
- or hydroxy;
- or an addition salt of said compound.
- 2. A compound as claimed in claim 1 wherein R.sub.5 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl.
- 3. A compound in accordance with claim 1 wherein R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 --CH.sub.2 -- and each of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is hydrogen.
- 4. A compound in accordance with claim 1 wherein R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 -- and each of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is hydrogen.
- 5. A compound in accordance with claim 1 wherein R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3 --, R.sub.5 is hydrogen and R.sub.6 is chlorine.
- 6. A process for preparing a compound of the formula ##STR11## wherein: R.sub.4 represents lower alkyl;
- R.sub.5 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, or benzyl; and
- R.sub.6 represents hydrogen, nitro, lower alkoxy, halo or hydroxy; comprising the steps of reacting a tryptamine with an alkyl 3-halopyruvate "and subsequent rearrangement of the reaction mixture by heating from 50.degree. to 120.degree. C. in the presence of a base".
- 7. A process according to claim 6 wherein the tryptamine is selected from the group consisting of tryptamine, chloro-tryptamine, fluoro-tryptamine, hydroxy-tryptamine, nitro-tryptamine and methoxy-tryptamine and the 3-halopyruvate is selected from the group consisting of 3-chloro and 3-bromo pyruvate.
