Claims
- 1. A polymer having the formula: ##STR66## or ##STR67## wherein: (a) R' is t-aliphatic having 4-10 carbon atoms;
- (b) R.sub.2 is lower alkyl of 1 to 8 carbons;
- (c) R'.sub.2 is --CN, --C(.dbd.O)OR.sub.6, --OC(.dbd.O)R.sub.6, --CL, --Br, --OC(.dbd.O)H, --GC(.dbd.G)R.sub.5, --GC(.dbd.G)GR.sub.5, --GR.sub.5, --N.sub.3, --SCN, --NCS, --OCN, --OOR.sub.8, --R.sub.5, ##STR68## (d) R.sub.2 " is aliphatic of 1 to 10 carbons, aromatic of 6 to 12 carbons, aromatic-aliphatic of 7 to 20 carbons, or cycloaliphatic of 3 to 10 carbons;
- (e) R.sub.2 and R.sub.2 ", when taken together with the tertiary carbon atom connected to the azo nitrogen atom, form a cycloaliphatic triradical of 3-10 carbons.
- (f) Y is a divalent radical selected from --C(.dbd.O)O--, --OC(.dbd.O)O--, and, --OC(.dbd.O)R.sub.3 (COOH)C(.dbd.O)O--,
- (g) R.sub.3 is an aromatic of 6 to 12 carbons, aliphatic of 1 to 10 carbons, or cycloaliphatic of 3 to 10 carbons;
- (h) R.sub.5 is an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical of 1-12 carbons or an aromatic radical of 6-12 carbons;
- (i) R.sub.6 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons;
- (j) R.sub.7 is H, alkyl or cycloalkyl of 1-10 carbons, or aromatic of 6-12 carbons;
- (k) R.sub.8 is tertiary aliphatic of 4 to 10 carbons;
- (l) R.sub.9 is lower alkylene of 1 to 6 carbons;
- (m) G is oxygen or sulfur;
- (n) E is a divalent residue of a polyester;
- (o) m is 1 to 2; n is 0 to 1 and m plus n is 2;
- (p) m' is 1 to 100; and
- (q) Z is selected from -OH, and --H.
- 2. A polymer according to claim 1 having the formula: ##STR69##
- 3. A polymer according to claim 1 having the formula: ##STR70##
- 4. A polymer according to claim 1 having the formula: ##STR71##
- 5. A polymer according to claim 1 having the formula: ##STR72##
- 6. A polymer or polymeric reaction product having the formula: ##STR73## wherein: (a) R' is t-aliphatic having 4-10 carbon atoms;
- (b) R.sub.2 is lower alkyl of 1 to 8 carbons;
- (c) R'.sub.2 is --CN, --C(.dbd.O)OR.sub.6, --OC(.dbd.O)R.sub.6, --Cl, --Br, --OC(.dbd.O)H, --GC(.dbd.G)R.sub.5, --GC(.dbd.G)GR.sub.5, --GR.sub.5, --N.sub.3, --SCN, --NCS, --OCN, --OOR.sub.8, --R.sub.5, ##STR74## (d) R.sub.2 " is aliphatic of 1 to 10 carbons, aromatic of 6 to 12 carbons, aromatic-aliphatic of 7 to 20 carbons, or cycloaliphatic of 3 to 10 carbons;
- (e) R.sub.2 and R.sub.2 ", when taken together with the tertiary carbon atom connected to the azo nitrogen atom, form a cycloaliphatic triradical of 3-10 carbons.
- (f) Y is a divalent radical selected from --C(.dbd.O)O--, --OC(.dbd.O)O--, --C(.dbd.O)S--, --OC(.dbd.O)S--, --OC(.dbd.O)R.sub.3 (COOH)C(.dbd.O)O--, and --OC(.dbd.0)R.sub.3 (COOH)C(.dbd.O)S--;
- (g) R.sub.3 is an aromatic of 6 to 12 carbons, aliphatic of 1 to 10 carbons, or cycloaliphatic of 3 to 10 carbons;
- (h) R.sub.5 is an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical of 1-12 carbons or an aromatic radical of 6-12 carbons;
- (i) R.sub.6 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons;
- (j) R.sub.7 is H, alkyl or cycloalkyl of 1-10 carbons, or aromatic of 6-12 carbons;
- (k) R.sub.8 is tertiary aliphatic of 4 to 10 carbons;
- (l) R.sub.9 is lower alkylene of 1 to 6 carbons;
- (m) G is oxygen or sulfur;
- (n) E is a divalent residue of a polyester;
- (o) m is 1 to 2; n is 0 to 1 and m plus n is 2;
- (p) m' is 1 to 100 and
- (q) Z is selected from --OH, --SH, --OR.sub.2 and --H.
- 7. A polymer according to claim 6 having the formula: ##STR75##
- 8. A polymer according to claim 6 having the formula: ##STR76## and which is a liquid.
- 9. A polymer according to claim 6 having the formula: ##STR77## and which is a liquid.
- 10. A polymer according to claim 6 having the formula: ##STR78## and which is a rubbery solid.
