Claims
- 1. A biologically pure culture of Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS50B having the identifying characteristics of NRRL B-21656.
- 2. An isolated, weevil-toxic protein comprising a weevil-toxic fragment of a CryIII-class toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS50B having accession number NRRL B-21656.
- 3. The protein of claim 2 wherein said protein is the full-length, CryIII-class toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS50B having accession number NRRL B-21656.
- 4. A method of controlling a weevil pest wherein said method comprises contacting said pest with a weevil-toxic amount of a protein wherein said protein comprises a weevil-toxic fragment of a CryIII-class toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS50B having accession number NRRL B-21656.
- 5. The method according to claim 4 wherein said protein is the full-length, CryIII-class toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS50B having accession number NRRL B-21656.
- 6. The method according to claim 4 wherein said weevil is a rice water weevil.
- 7. A method of controlling rice water weevils wherein said method comprises administering to said weevils a pesticidally effective amount of a toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis isolate PS33F2, or a weevil-toxic fragment of said toxin, wherein said toxin, or said fragment thereof, is produced by a plant.
- 8. A method of controlling a weevil pest wherein said method comprises administering to said weevil a pesticidally effective amount of an approximately 28 to 33 kD toxin obtainable from Bacillus thuringiensis isolate PS201T6, or a fragment of said toxin that is active against weevils, wherein said toxin, or said fragment thereof, is produced by a plant.
- 9. The method according to claim 8 wherein said fragment is an activated truncation of said toxin.
- 10. The method according to claim 8 wherein said weevil pest is a rice water weevil.
- 11. The method according to claim 8 wherein said weevil pest is an alfalfa weevil.
- 12. The method according to claim 8 wherein said weevil pest is a boll weevil.
