Claims
- 1. A dumbbell system, comprising:
a base weight member including a ring shaped body and a handle extending across an opening in said ring shaped body; and a weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said base weight member.
- 2. The dumbbell system according to claim 1, further comprising a lock ring which is engageable with said weight ring to securely mount said weight ring to said base weight member.
- 3. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 2, wherein one of said weight ring and said lock ring includes a first mating portion and the other of said weight ring and said lock ring includes a second mating portion which is adapted to be engaged with said first mating portion for securing said weight ring and said lock ring together.
- 4. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 3, wherein said first and second mating portions are engaged with one another by rotating said lock ring relative to said weight ring.
- 5. The dumbbell system according to claim 4, wherein said base weight member has an outer perimeter surface with a pair of angularly disposed edge portions.
- 6. The dumbbell system according to claim 5, wherein said weight ring includes an inner surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion which engages one of said pair of angularly disposed edge portions of said base weight member.
- 7. The dumbbell system according to claim 6, wherein said lock ring includes an angularly disposed inner surface which engages the other of said pair of angularly disposed edge portions of said base weight member.
- 8. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 3, wherein said first mating portion is a locking tab and said second mating portion is a slot which is adapted to receive said locking tab.
- 9. The dumbbell system according to claim 2, further comprising a second weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said weight ring.
- 10. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 9, further comprising a third weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight ring.
- 11. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 1, wherein said weight ring is adapted to be removably mounted to an outer surface of said base weight member.
- 12. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 11, further comprising a second weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said weight ring.
- 13. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 12, further comprising a third weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight ring.
- 14. The dumbbell system according to claim 1, wherein said base weight member has an outer perimeter surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion.
- 15. The dumbbell system according to claim 14, wherein said weight ring includes an inner surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion which engages said at least one angularly disposed edge portion of said base weight member.
- 16. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a second weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said weight ring.
- 17. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 16, further comprising a third weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight ring.
- 18. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 1, wherein said weight ring includes a serrated face surface.
- 19. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 2, wherein said lock ring includes a face surface having a plurality of dimples thereon.
- 20. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 2, wherein said weight ring includes a body portion and a mounting ring fixedly attached to said body portion, said mounting ring including a first mating portion and said lock ring including a second mating portion which is adapted to be engaged with said first mating portion for securing said weight ring and said lock ring together.
- 21. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a locking member mounted on said base weight member for securing said weight ring to said base weight member.
- 22. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 21, further comprising a second weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said weight ring by said locking member.
- 23. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 22, further comprising a third weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight ring by said locking member.
- 24. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 21, wherein said locking member is a threaded shaft which is actuated by rotation of said handle to extend radially outwardly for selectively engaging said weight ring.
- 25. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 24, wherein said handle includes an indicator window for displaying an engagement status of said locking member.
- 26. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 24, further comprising a locking mechanism for engaging said handle in a fixed position.
- 27. A dumbbell system, comprising:
a base weight member including a body portion defining a central opening therethrough and a handle extending across said opening in said body portion; and a second weight member adapted to be removably mounted to an outer surface of said body portion of said base weight member.
- 28. The dumbbell system according to claim 27, wherein said body portion of said base weight member and said second weight member are ring shaped.
- 29. The dumbbell system according to claim 27, further comprising a locking member which is engageable with said second weight member to securely mount said second weight member to said base weight member.
- 30. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 29, wherein one of said second weight member and said locking member includes a first mating portion and the other of said second weight member and said locking member includes a second mating portion which is adapted to be engaged with said first mating portion for securing said second weight member and said base weight member together.
- 31. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 30, wherein said locking member is a threaded shaft which is actuated by rotation of said handle to extend radially outwardly for selectively engaging said second weight member.
- 32. The dumbbell system according to claim 27, wherein said body portion of said base weight member has an outer perimeter surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion.
- 33. The dumbbell system according to claim 32, wherein said second weight member includes an inner surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion which engages one of said pair of angularly disposed edge portions of said base weight member.
- 34. The dumbbell system according to claim 27, further comprising a third weight member adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight member.
- 35. The dumbbell assembly according to claim 34, further comprising a fourth weight member adapted to be removably mounted to said third weight member.
- 36. A weight disk system, comprising:
a base weight member including a body portion defining a central opening adapted to receive a weight bar therethrough; and a second weight member adapted to be removably mounted to an outer surface of said body portion of said base weight member.
- 37. The weight disk system according to claim 36, wherein said body portion of said base weight member and said second weight member are ring shaped.
- 38. The disk weight system according to claim 36, further comprising a locking member which is engageable with said second weight member to securely mount said second weight member to said base weight member.
- 39. The disk weight assembly according to claim 38, wherein one of said second weight member and said locking member includes a first mating portion and the other of said second weight member and said locking member includes a second mating portion which is adapted to be engaged with said first mating portion for securing said second weight member and said base weight member together.
- 40. The disk weight system according to claim 36, wherein said body portion of said base weight member has an outer perimeter surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion.
- 41. The disk weight system according to claim 40, wherein said second weight member includes an inner surface with at least one angularly disposed edge portion which engages said at least angularly disposed edge portion of said base weight member.
- 42. The disk weight system according to claim 36, further comprising a third weight member adapted to be removably mounted to said second weight member.
- 43. The disk weight system according to claim 42, further comprising a fourth weight member adapted to be removably mounted to said third weight member.
- 44. A dumbbell, comprising:
a body portion defining a central opening therethrough said central opening defined by an inner wall surface having upper and lower angularly outwardly extending edge portions; and a handle extending across said central opening.
- 45. The dumbbell according to claim 44 wherein said body portion is ring shaped.
- 46. A dumbbell system, comprising:
a base weight member including a body portion and a handle extending across an opening in said body portion, a weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said base weight member; a locking member which is engageable with said weight ring to securely mount said weight ring to said base weight member; and an acoustic signal mechanism which generates a sound which signals proper engagement of said locking member with said weight ring.
- 47. The dumbbell system according to claim 46, wherein said locking member includes a lock ring and said acoustic signal mechanism includes:
first and second fingers extending downward within a slot of said lock ring; a third finger extending upward from said base weight member; and wherein as said lock ring engages said weight ring said third finger passes under said first finger and is temporarily flexed such that once past said first finger, said first finger snaps back into a static position contacting said second finger and generating a click noise.
- 48. The dumbbell system according to claim 46, wherein said locking member includes a threaded shaft which is actuated by rotation of said handle to extend radially outwardly for selectively engaging said weight ring, said acoustic signal mechanism including a locking member for selectively engaging said handle in a fixed position.
- 49. A dumbbell system, comprising:
a base weight member including a ring shaped body and a handle extending across an opening in said ring shaped body; a weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said base weight member; and a lock ring comprising first and second ring halves hingedly attached to said weight ring to securely mount said weight ring to said base weight member.
- 50. The dumbbell system according to claim 49, further comprising a latch mechanism for holding said first and second ring halves in a closed position.
- 51. The dumbbell system according to claim 50, wherein said latch mechanism includes a latch hingedly attached to said first ring half and engageable with said second ring half such that said latch is flush with an outer surface of said lock ring.
- 52. The dumbbell system according to claim 50, wherein said latch mechanism includes:
a latch pivotally mounted within a recessed portion of an upper surface of said locking ring, such an upper surface of said latch is flush with said upper surface of said lock ring; a spring disposed under a first end of said latch for pivotally biasing said latch in a lock position; and wherein said latch further includes a hook portion engageable with a step portion of said second ring half for holding said lock ring in a closed position.
- 53. The dumbbell system according to claim 49, wherein a face of said base weight member includes a tab portion for interfacing a groove portion of said lock ring for mounting said lock ring to said base weight member.
- 54. A barbell system comprising:
a plurality of dumbbells; an elongated bar having first and second ends; and first and second adapters attached to said first and second ends for further attaching said plurality of dumbbells to said elongated bar.
- 55. The barbell system according to claim 54, wherein said plurality of dumbbells each further include:
a base weight member including a ring shaped body and a handle extending across an opening in said ring shaped body; and a weight ring adapted to be removably mounted to said base weight member.
- 56. A dumbbell system, comprising:
a base weight member having a body portion with an opening disposed therethrough; a second weight member adapted to be removably mounted to said base weight member; a handle extending across the opening in said body portion, said handle being rotatably supported on opposite ends thereof by said body portion; a locking member operably engaged with said handle for extending outward from said base weight member for removably attaching said second weight member to said base weight member.
- 57. The dumbbell system according to claim 56, further comprising a second locking member operably engaged with said handle for extending outward from said base weight member for removably attaching said second member to said base weight member.
- 58. The dumbbell system according to claim 56, further comprising a lock mechanism engageable with said handle to prevent rotation of said handle.
- 59. The dumbbell system according to claim 58, wherein said lock mechanism includes:
a pin extending downward within a hole in said base weight member; a knob attached to said pin for operating said lock mechanism; and a spring for biasing said pin toward an engaged position with said handle.
- 60. The dumbbell system according to claim 56, further comprising a display mechanism on said handle for displaying an engagement status of said locking member.
- 61. The dumbbell system according to claim 60, wherein said display mechanism includes a window in said handle and a reference indicator viewable through said window to indicate when said second weight member is engaged with said base weight member.
a locking member operably engaged with said handle for extending outward from said at least one base weight member for removably attaching said at least one second weight member to said handle.
- 63. The weight system according to claim 62, further comprising a lock mechanism engageable with said handle to prevent rotation of said handle.
- 64. The weight system according to claim 62, further comprising a display mechanism on said handle for displaying an engagement status of said locking member.
- 65. The weight system according to claim 64, wherein said display mechanism includes a window in said handle and a reference indicator viewable through said window to indicate when said at least one second weight member is engaged with said at least one base weight member.
- 66. The weight system according to claim 62, wherein said locking member includes a threaded portion and is received in an axially extending aperture in said handle.
- 67. The weight system according to claim 66, wherein said aperture in said handle includes at least one radially inwardly extending thread engaging projection for drivingly engaging said threaded portion of said locking member.
