Claims
- 1. A ball bearing slide assembly, the slide assembly comprising:
a first slide member; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and second slide members; and a ball bearing roller, the ball bearing roller further comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud to mount the ball bearing roller to the carriage, the bearing stud including a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the inner bearing race including a chamfer and the portion abuts the carriage; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a swaged portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer; and wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 2. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 1 wherein the inner bearing race is a split inner bearing race.
- 3. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 2 wherein the split inner bearing race comprises an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race and a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud.
- 4. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 1 wherein the ball bearing roller is a caged ball bearing roller.
- 5. A ball bearing slide assembly, the slide assembly comprising:
a first slide member; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and second slide members; and a ball bearing roller, the ball bearing roller further comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud to mount the ball bearing roller to the carriage, the bearing stud including a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip and adjacent to the carriage; an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race; and a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer and the portion abuts the carriage so as to be in compressive contact with the carriage; and wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 6. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 5, wherein the second slide member comprises a substantially vertical segment, an upper bent segment, and a lower bent segment, such that the upper and lower bent segments extend from, and are connected to, the vertical segment.
- 7. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 6, wherein at least one of the second slide member bent segments comprises a V-shaped slide surfaces to reduce frictional contact between the ball bearing roller and the slide surface.
- 8. A bearing slide assembly, the slide assembly comprising:
a first slide member; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members; and a bearing attached to carriage; wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the bearing, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 9. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 8 wherein the second slide member comprises a substantially vertical segment, an upper bent segment, and a lower bent segment, such that the upper and lower bent segments extend from, and are connected to, the vertical segment.
- 10. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 9 wherein at least one of the second slide member bent segments comprises a V-shaped slide surface to align the ball bearing roller to the slide surface.
- 11. The ball bearing slide assembly of claim 8 further comprising a split inner race.
- 12. A ball bearing slide assembly in combination with an article of manufacture, the combination comprising:
a first slide member mounted to the article of manufacture; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members; and a ball bearing roller attached to carriage; wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 13. The combination of claim 12 wherein the second slide member comprises a substantially vertical segment, an upper bent segment, and a lower bent segment, such that the upper and lower bent segments extend from, and are connected to, the vertical segment, and wherein at least one of the second slide member bent segments comprises a V-shaped slide surface to align the ball bearing roller to the slide surface.
- 14. The combination of claim 12 wherein the roller comprises a split inner race.
- 15. A toolbox comprising:
a housing defining an interior of the toolbox; a drawer for insertion into the interior of the toolbox; and a ball bearing roller, the ball bearing roller further comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud to mount the ball bearing roller in connected engagement with the drawer, the bearing stud including a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the inner bearing race including a chamfer; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer.
- 16. The toolbox of claim 15 wherein the inner bearing race is a split inner bearing race comprising an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race and a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud.
- 17. A toolbox comprising:
a housing defining an interior of the toolbox; a drawer for insertion into the interior of the toolbox; and a ball bearing slide assembly connected to the drawer, the ball bearing slide assembly further comprising:
a first slide member mounted to the toolbox; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members; and a ball bearing roller attached to carriage; wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 18. The toolbox of claim 17 wherein the second slide member comprises a substantially vertical segment, an upper bent segment, and a lower bent segment, such that the upper and lower bent segments extend from, and are connected to, the vertical segment, and wherein at least one of the second slide member bent segments comprises a V-shaped slide surface to align the ball bearing roller to the slide surface.
- 19. A toolbox comprising:
a housing defining an interior of the toolbox; a drawer for insertion into the interior of the toolbox; a ball bearing slide assembly connected to the drawer, the ball bearing slide assembly further comprising:
a first slide member mounted to the toolbox; a second slide member; a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members; and a ball bearing roller attached to carriage, the ball bearing roller further comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud to mount the ball bearing roller is in connected engagement with the drawer, the bearing stud including a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the inner bearing race including a chamfer; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer and the portion abuts the carriage; and wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage.
- 20. The toolbox of claim 19 wherein the inner bearing race is a split inner bearing race comprising an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race and a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud.
- 21. A ball bearing roller, the roller comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud comprising a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the inner bearing race including a chamfer; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer.
- 22. The ball bearing roller of claim 21 wherein the inner bearing race is a split inner bearing race comprising an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race and a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud.
- 23. The ball bearing roller of claim 21 wherein the roller is a caged roller.
- 24. A ball bearing roller, the roller comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud comprising a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race; a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer.
- 25. The ball bearing roller of claim 24 wherein the roller can be attached to an article of manufacture such that the portion of the bearing that is in compressive contact with the chamfer is shielded by the article of manufacture.
- 26. A ball bearing roller in combination with a ball bearing slide assembly, the ball bearing roller and ball bearing slide assembly combination comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud comprising a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an extended inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the extended inner bearing race including a chamfer and a side adjacent the chamfer that extends beyond a first side of the outer bearing race; a flush inner bearing race adjacent to and flush with the bearing stud; and a bearing ball disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is staked such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer; wherein the ball bearing slide assembly comprises a first slide member, a second slide member, a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members, and wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second slide member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage; and wherein the portion of the bearing stud in compressive contact with the chamfer abuts the carriage.
- 27. The ball bearing roller and slide assembly combination of claim 26 wherein the second slide member comprises a substantially vertical segment, an upper bent segment, and a lower bent segment, such that the upper and lower bent segments extend from, and are connected to, the vertical segment, and wherein at least one of the second slide member bent segments comprises a V-shaped slide surface to align the ball bearing roller to the slide surface.
- 28. A ball bearing roller in combination with a ball bearing slide assembly, the roller and slide assembly combination comprising:
an outer bearing race; a bearing stud comprising a bearing hub lip and a side distal from the bearing hub lip; an inner bearing race adjacent the bearing stud, the inner bearing race including a chamfer; and a ball bearing disposed in an area between the inner and outer races; wherein the side distal from the bearing hub lip is swaged such that a portion of the bearing stud is in compressive contact with the chamfer; wherein the ball bearing slide assembly comprises a first slide member, a second slide member, a carriage disposed between the first and the second slide members, and wherein the carriage couples, in combination with the ball bearing roller, the first slide member to the second slide member such that the second slide member moves relative to both the first slide member and the carriage; and wherein the portion of the bearing stud in compressive contact with the chamfer abuts the carriage.
- 29. The bearing slide assembly of claim 8 wherein the bearing is selected from one of the following: a ball bearing, a roller bearing, and a plane bearing.
- 30. The bearing slide assembly of claim 8 wherein the bearing comprises a rolling element.
- 31. The bearing slide assembly of claim 30 wherein the rolling element is one of: a bearing ball and a bearing roller.
- 32. The bearing slide assembly of claim 8 wherein the bearing is attached to the carriage using a fastener selected from one of: a threaded stud, a rivet, a retaining ring groove, and a welded stud.
