Claims
- 1. An actuator for creating linear motion of an attached object, comprising:a) a housing, having: i) an enlarged chamber; ii) a reduced chamber, smaller than and coupled to the enlarged chamber; b) a first band, made of flexible material, forming a first single volume extending into both the enlarged and reduced chambers; c) the attached object being coupled to the band; and d) fluid source means, coupled to the housing, for pumping fluid into the volume and thereby moving the object in a direction going from the reduced chamber to the enlarged chamber.
- 2. The actuator of claim 1, further comprising:a) a second band, made of flexible material, forming a second single volume extending into both the enlarged and reduced chambers, and being a mirror image of the first single volume; b) the object coupled to the second band; and c) the fluid source means coupled to pump fluid into the second volume simultaneously to pumping fluid into the first volume.
- 3. The actuator of claim 2, wherein the one end of the first and second bands are attached to the reduced chamber, and an opposite end of the first and second bands are attached to the enlarged chamber to form the first and second volumes.
- 4. The actuator of claim 3, wherein the first and second bands are made of metal.
- 5. The actuator of claim 3, wherein the fluid comprises air.
- 6. The actuator of claim 3, wherein surface area of the first and second bands located within the enlarged section is greater than the surface area of the first and second bands located within the reduced section.
