Claims
- 1. A telecommunication system for processing a plurality of simultaneous bidirectional communications between a primary station and at least one secondary station using wireless transmissions over one of a plurality of available RF carrier frequencies, each carrier frequency having an associated predetermined bandwidth which is designed to accommodate one analog voice signal therein and each carrier frequency containing a plurality of time slots; each bidirectional communication comprising transmit (TX) and receive (RX) information signals, the primary station comprising:
- means for modulating said TX information signals to reduce the bandwidth required to transmit said TX information signals and
- for directing each of the modulated TX information signals to an assigned frequency and time slot;
- transmitting means for upconverting and RF transmitting said modulated TX information signals to at least one secondary station by RF modulating a selected one of said RF carrier frequencies with said modulated TX information signals, and
- a control unit for selectively controlling said modulating means and said transmitting means such that said selected carrier frequency resides within said predetermined bandwidth and is capable of carrying at least two simultaneous bidirectional communications.
- 2. The system of claim 1 further comprising means for synchronizing the primary station with said at least one secondary station.
- 3. The system of claim 2 wherein each of said plurality of RF carrier frequencies is divided into a plurality of repeating time frames, each time frame comprising four time slots.
- 4. The system of claim 3 wherein said synchronization means
- selects one of said plurality of RF carrier frequencies and said transmitting means RF modulates each of said time slots within said selected frequency, leaving at least a portion of one of said time slots unmodulated with said TX information signal to provide a timing reference signal.
- 5. The system of claim 4 wherein said primary station further comprises:
- means for transmitting in a first time slot an TX information signal of a first communication on a first selected RF carrier frequency;
- means for transmitting in a second time slot an TX information signal of a second communication on the selected RF carrier frequency;
- means for receiving in a third time slot an RX information signal of said first communication transmitted from a secondary station on the selected RF carrier frequency;
- means for receiving in a fourth time slot an RX information signal of said second communication transmitted from a secondary station on the selected RF carrier frequency; and means for demodulating said RX information signals.
- 6. The system of claim 5 wherein the secondary station comprises:
- means for receiving the synchronization information from the primary station and for identifying said assignment of time slots for reception of said TX information signal and transmission of said corresponding RX information signal of said first bidirectional communication;
- means for receiving said TX information signal of said first communication on said first time slot of the selected frequency; and
- means for transmitting said corresponding RX information signal of said first communication on a third time slot of the selected frequency.
- 7. The system of claim 5 wherein the secondary station is a dual station which includes:
- means for receiving the synchronization information from said primary station and for identifying the assignment of time slots on said selected frequency for said bidirectional communications;
- means for receiving a plurality of said TX information signals of said plurality of communications on said selected frequency in a first plurality of said assigned time slots; and
- means for transmitting a plurality of said corresponding RX information signals of said plurality of communications on the selected frequency in a second plurality of said assigned time slots.
- 8. The system of claim 1 where at least one of said plurality of secondary stations monitors the reception of said selected RF carrier frequency; wherein said control unit selectively controls and said transmitting means in response thereto to provide satisfactory reception of said RF carrier frequencies at said secondary station.
- 9. The system of claim 8 wherein each said secondary station is assigned to a predetermined time slot for communication.
- 10. The system of claim 8 wherein said control unit selectively controls said modulating means to redirect each of the modulated TX information signals to a different time slot in response to the unsatisfactory reception of the RF carrier frequency at said secondary station.
- 11. The system of claim 8 wherein said control unit selectively controls said transmitting means to increase the power of said transmitted RF carrier frequencies in response to the unsatisfactory reception of the RF carrier frequency at said secondary station.
- 12. The system of claim 8 wherein said control unit selectively controls the modulating means for directing each of the modulated TX information signals to a different RF carrier frequency in response to the unsatisfactory reception of the RF carrier frequency at said secondary station.
