Claims
- 1. A battery pack for use with compatible equipment comprising:
- a rechargeable battery cell;
- stored data relating to battery consumption;
- means for transmitting said data to said compatible equipment where it can be displayed for external analysis; and
- means for accepting charge delivered to said battery pursuant to one of more than one predetermined procedures, which one of more than one predetermined procedures is selectable based upon said data after external analysis.
- 2. A battery pack as recited in claim 1, wherein one of said more than one predetermined procedures is a "normal charge" procedure.
- 3. A battery pack as recited in claim 2, wherein one of said more than one predetermined procedures is a "full charge" procedure.
- 4. A battery pack as recited in claim 3, wherein said compatible equipment comprises compatible video equipment.
- 5. A battery pack as recited in claim 4, wherein said compatible video equipment comprises a camcorder and an associated battery charger.
- 6. A system comprising:
- at least one piece of associated equipment; and
- a rechargeable battery pack, said rechargeable battery pack comprising,
- means for interacting with said at least one piece of associated equipment;
- at least one rechargeable battery cell; and
- identification data;
- wherein said identification data provides said at least one piece of associated equipment with information as to selection of one of multiple procedures for interacting with said rechargeable battery pack.
- 7. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current rapid charge.
- 8. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current standard charge.
- 9. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current trickle charge.
- 10. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage charge.
- 11. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage current limited charge.
- 12. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack.
- 13. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to not charge said battery pack.
- 14. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to allow discharge of said battery pack.
- 15. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to limit the discharge of said battery pack.
- 16. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to limit the rate of discharge of said battery pack.
- 17. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises manufacturer identity.
- 18. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to display one of multiple charge level indicators.
- 19. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said associated equipment comprises a computer.
- 20. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said associated equipment comprises a camcorder.
- 21. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said associated equipment comprises a charger.
- 22. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said multiple procedures consists of charging and not charging said battery pack.
- 23. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data is used for authorization for energy transfer.
- 24. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises capacity.
- 25. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises number of cells.
- 26. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises chemistry.
- 27. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises cell manufacturer.
- 28. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises historical information.
- 29. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises date of manufacture.
- 30. A system as recited in claim 6, wherein said identification data comprises pack assembler.
- 31. A rechargeable battery pack for use with at least one piece of associated equipment, said battery pack comprising:
- at least one rechargeable battery cell; and
- identification data;
- said identification data providing at least one of said pieces of associated equipment with information as to selection of one of multiple procedures for interacting with said battery pack.
- 32. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current rapid charge.
- 33. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current standard charge.
- 34. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current trickle charge.
- 35. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage charge.
- 36. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage current limited charge.
- 37. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack.
- 38. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to not charge said battery pack.
- 39. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to allow discharge of said battery pack.
- 40. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to limit the discharge of said battery pack.
- 41. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to limit the rate of discharge of said battery pack.
- 42. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein said identification data comprises manufacturer identity.
- 43. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to display one of multiple charge level indicators.
- 44. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein said associated equipment comprises a computer.
- 45. A rechargeable battery pack as recited in claim 31, wherein said associated equipment comprises a camcorder.

- 56. An integrated circuit for use in a system, wherein said system comprises:
- a rechargeable battery pack, said rechargeable battery pack comprising,
- at least one rechargeable battery cell; and
- identification data; and
- at least one piece of associated equipment;
- wherein said identification data provides said at least one piece of associated equipment with information as to selection of one of multiple procedures for interacting with said rechargeable battery pack.
- 57. An integrated circuit as recited in claim 56, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current rapid charge.
- 58. An integrated circuit as recited in claim 56, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current standard charge.
- 59. An integrated circuit as recited in claim 56, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant current trickle charge.
- 60. An integrated circuit as recited in claim 56, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage charge.
- 61. An integrated circuit as recited in claim 56, wherein one of said multiple procedures is to charge said battery pack with a constant voltage current limited charge.

- at least one rechargeable battery cell;
- a battery charger;
- at least one memory having stored therein information;
- said information enabling said battery charger to select one of multiple procedures for interacting with said at least one rechargeable battery cell.
