Claims
- 1. An electro-mechanical substrate for a nickel hydrogen battery electrode comprising:
- a nickel sheet metal electrode, said electrode being generally circular and having an inner rim and an outer rim, substantially radial conductors extending between said inner and outer rims and being of greater cross section adjacent said inner rim, said electrode substrate having a plurality of openings between said inner and outer rims and between said radial conductors to form a grid mesh, the edges of said rims and said conductors having an etched surface.
- 2. The substrate of claim 1 wherein a solid metal tab extends inwardly from said inner rim for the attachment of an electric lead.
- 3. The substrate of claim 2 wherein an electric lead is welded to said tab.
- 4. A positive electrode for a nickel-hydrogen battery wherein said substrate of claim 1 has a face thereon and porous nickel is sintered onto said face.
- 5. The positive electrode of claim 4 wherein nickel-hydroxide is positioned in the pores of said sintered nickel on said face of said nickel substrate.
- 6. A negative electrode for a nickel-hydrogen battery wherein said substrate of claim 1 has first and second faces and has porous polytetrafluoroethylene attached to the first face thereof.
- 7. The negative electrode of claim 6 wherein said porous polytetrafluoroethylene is a porous polytetrafluoroethylene sheet which is adhesively attached to said first face of said substrate.
- 8. The negative electrode of claim 6 wherein said second face of said nickel substrate as a platinum powder-polytetrafluoroethylene mixture sintered thereon.
- 9. The negative electrode of claim 8 wherein said porous polytetrafluoroethylene is a porous polytetrafluoroethylene sheet which is adhesively attached to said first face of said substrate.
