The pouch battery cell 23 is, for example, a battery cell using plastic or flexible materials such as aluminum-plastic film as packaging materials, and has the advantages of being light in weight, not prone to explosion, and flexible in design. The aluminum-plastic film may be, for example, an aluminum-plastic film including a nylon layer, an aluminum layer, and a PP/CPP layer.
In some embodiments of the disclosure, the size range of the pouch battery cell 23 used in the pouch CTP battery pack is: length 300-700 mm, width 100-120 mm, and thickness 10-20 mm. The electrode tabs 231 (reference may be made to
How to install the battery cell stack 2 into the casing and apply a preload force to the battery cell stack 2 in the initial state is a technical problem to be solved in the assembly process of the pouch CTP battery pack 100.
In order to solve the above problem, referring to
In order to ensure that the preload force is more evenly distributed to various positions of the pouch battery cell 23 and avoid local stress concentration, the portion where the inner side surface 242 of the side plate 24 contacts the main body surface of the pouch battery cell 23 is formed as a flat surface 245. In other words, the area of the inner side surface 242 of the side plate 24 formed as the flat surface 245 is larger than the area of the plane portion of the main body surface of the pouch battery cell 23.
The outer edge of the inner side surface 242 of the side plate 24 protrudes to form an outer edge limiting portion 244 for limiting the relative position relationship between the side plate 24 and the pouch battery cell 23 when the flat surface 245 in the center of the inner side surface 242 abuts against the main surface of the pouch battery cell 23.
The structure of the outer side surface 243 of the side plate 24 is shown in
Optionally, the wall thickness of the side plate 24 is 1.5-5 mm, the overall width is 5-25 mm, and the material of the side plate 24 may be plastic materials such as PA6, PA66, PPE, and PBT.
It should be noted that the recess 241 is only one form of matching with the external fixture in this embodiment. In other embodiments of the disclosure, according to different types of fixtures, the outer side surface 243 of the side plate may also be disposed with any other suitable form of fixture matching portion, as long as the fixture matching portion may be matched with the fixture, so that the fixture can stably clamp the battery cell stack 2.
Through the side plate 24 of the above structure, the uniform preload force may be applied to the battery stack 2 in the initial state, thereby effectively improving the grouping capability of the pouch battery cells 23 and facilitating the grouping of the pouch battery cells 23 and the insertion of the battery stack 2 into the casing.
During the assembly process, it is necessary to apply the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 between the bottom of the battery cell stack 2 and the lower case base plate 13. The thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 is generally spread evenly and fills the gap by external extrusion. However, due to reasons such as uneven extrusion pressure, the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 in some areas is usually too thin or too thick, which affects the heat dissipation efficiency and may affect the insulation performance.
In some implementations of the disclosure, the limiting portion 26 is in a strip shape, namely, a limiting strip. The limiting portion 26 is preferably made of an insulating material, for example, an elastomer such as foam or silicone rubber, or plastic such as PP or PPF. In other embodiments, the limiting portion 26 may also be made of a relatively high-strength metal material such as aluminum alloy or stainless steel, and insulation may be achieved by sticking an insulating film or spraying insulating material on the surface of the metal limiting portion 26.
In some embodiments, the limiting portion 26 may be formed by splicing a plurality of limiting strips, or may be formed by integrally molding the plurality of limiting strips. In other embodiments, the limiting portion 26 may also be integrally formed with the lower case base plate 13.
On the one hand, the limiting part 26 may assist in controlling the amount of the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 added, improve the uniformity of the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 at the bottom of the battery cell stack 2, enhance the heat dissipation capacity of the battery cell stack 2, and improve the safety under high current use conditions; on the other hand, the limiting portion 26 may also separate the battery cell stack 2 and the lower case base plate 13 to ensure that the bottom of the battery cell stack 2 does not directly contact the lower case base plate 13 to affect the insulation.
Referring to
The heights of the various limiting portions 26 are equal and are substantially equal to the rated adhesive coating height.
In order to improve the overall strength and rigidity of a pouch CTP battery pack 500 and ensure the structural safety performance of the pouch CTP battery pack 500, in some embodiments of the disclosure, a foaming adhesive 29 is further filled between the short edge beam 142 and the battery cell stack 2.
The pouched battery cells 23 are stacked in the thickness direction thereof and perpendicular to the lower case base plate 13, and the length direction of the pouched battery cell 23 is the length direction of the casing 1. The electrode tabs 231 extend from the two ends of the pouch battery cell 23 in the length direction, and the positive electrode tabs 231 and the negative electrode tabs 231 are respectively located at the two ends of the pouch battery cell 23 in the length direction. The positive electrode tabs 231 and the negative electrode tabs 231 of adjacent cells are rolled and bent and directly overlapped and welded to be fixed. In addition, in some embodiments, the battery cell stack 2 may further include a flexible printed circuit board 28 (reference may be made to
After curing, the height of the foaming adhesive 29 is higher than the height of the electrode tabs 231. In this way, the foaming adhesive 29 may completely wrap the electrode tabs 231 inside the foaming adhesive 29, and the respective electrode tabs 231 are electrically isolated by the foaming adhesive 29, which effectively prevents overlapping short circuits between the electrode tabs 231, and can improve thermal runaway protection performance, safety, and stability.
The height H1 of the foaming adhesive, the height H2 of the electrode tabs 231, and the body height H3 of the pouch battery cell 23 satisfy the following formula: H2≤H1≤H3. That is, in addition to completely immersing the electrode tabs 231, the height H1 of the foaming adhesive is preferably less than or equal to the height H3 of the pouched battery cell, that is, preferably, the height H2 of the tab ≤ the height H1 of the foaming adhesive ≤ the height H3 of the pouched battery cell. Since the foaming adhesive 29 may completely immerse the electrode tabs 231, when thermal runaway occurs, the high-temperature gas generated inside the pouch battery cell 23 is no longer released from the electrode tabs 231, but is released from the top of the electrode tabs 231 of the pouch battery cell 23 above the foaming adhesive 29, thereby effectively preventing the spread of thermal runaway.
In some embodiments of the disclosure, the distance between the tab overlap surface 232 interconnected between the electrode tabs 231 and the short edge beam 142 or the casing middle beam 15 is 3-10 mm, the inner surfaces of the short edge beam 142 and the casing middle beam 15 are disposed with an insulating strip 17, this thickness of the insulating strip 17 is 0.1-0.5 mm, and the insulating strip 17 can further ensure the electrical insulation between the electrode tabs 231 and the casing 1.
The density of the foaming adhesive is a, 0.25≤a≤0.3 g/cm3, the elastic modulus is b, 10≤b≤30 MPa, the shear strength is c, 1≤c≤3 MPa, and the tensile strength is d, 1≤d≤3 MPa. That is, the density of the foaming adhesive 29 after curing is 0.1-0.3 g/cm3, the elastic modulus is 10-30 MPa, the shear strength and the tensile strength are in the range of 1-3 MPa, the elongation at break is ≥8%, the compression modulus is ≥30 MPa, and the storage modulus is ≥20 MPa. In addition, the material of the foaming adhesive 29 further has insulation properties, with a volume resistivity ≥1⋄1015Ω·cm, and a flame retardant grade meeting UL94 VO.
Through the above method, on the one hand, the foaming adhesive 29 can fix the battery cell stack 2 and increase the rigidity and strength of the pouch CTP battery pack 500, and on the other hand, the electrode tabs 231 can be isolated, including the electrode tabs 231 being isolated from high-temperature gas generated during thermal runaway, and the electrical insulation between the electrode tabs 231 and between the electrode tabs 231 and the casing 1 can be achieved.
In order to prevent the foaming adhesive 29 from invading between the battery cell stack 2 and the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 and affecting the heat dissipation capacity of the battery cell stack 2 or reducing the mechanical properties of the battery pack, in some embodiments of the disclosure, a glue blocking structure 27 is disposed at a position where the foaming adhesive 29 and the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 may come into contact.
Referring to
Two glue blocking structures 27 are respectively disposed inside the first chamber 161 and the second chamber 162. The area for applying the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 is located between the two glue blocking structures 27, and the foaming adhesive 29 is filled between the glue blocking structure 27 and the short edge beam 142, and between the glue blocking structure 27 and the casing middle beam 15.
The length of the glue blocking structure 27 is greater than or equal to the length of the battery cell stack 2 along the stacking direction, and less than the width of the casing 1. The width of the glue blocking structure 27 is 1-30 mm. The top of the glue blocking structure 27 is higher than the top of the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25, so as to limit the adhesive coating area of the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 and prevent the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 from overflowing.
The glue blocking structure 27 is preferably made of an insulating material with a certain elasticity, such as foam, silicone rubber, and other elastic materials, so as to effectively fill the gap, isolate the foaming adhesive 29 and the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25, and prevent the two adhesives from contacting each other.
The bottom of the glue blocking structure 27 is a flat surface and fits with the lower case base plate 13. The top may be formed as an elastic flat surface. Since there is a certain gap between the pouch battery cells 23, when the pouch battery cells 23 squeeze the top plane of the glue blocking structure 27, a plurality of teeth 271 arranged at equal intervals along the length direction may be formed on the top of the blocking rubber part 27. The tooth interval between adjacent teeth 271 is equal to the thickness of one or a group of pouch battery cells 23, and the glue blocking structure 27 may be bonded and fixed to the battery cell stack 2 by each tooth 271 correspondingly extending into the space between adjacent pouch battery cells 23.
Referring to
In the above manner, the glue blocking structure 27 may form a close contact with the bottom of the battery cell stack 2 and fill the gaps between the pouch battery cells 23, so that the foaming adhesive 29 and the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 are effectively isolated to prevent the foaming adhesive 29 from invading between the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 and the battery cell stack 2, thereby ensuring the heat dissipation performance of the battery cell stack 2 and the mechanical properties of the pouch CTP battery pack 600.
In other embodiments of the disclosure, the stopper manner of the glue blocking structure 27 includes but is not limited to filling the gap between adjacent pouch battery cells 23, filling the gap between the casing 1 and the battery cell stack 2, and wrapping the side of the pouch battery cell 23, as long as the manner is helpful to isolate the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 and the foaming adhesive 29.
In the following description, the assembly process of the pouch CTP battery pack provided in some embodiments of the disclosure is introduced.
First, the lower case 11 of the casing 1 is provided. If the lower case 11 is integrated with the limiting portion 26 or the glue blocking structure 27, then the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 is directly applied between the limiting portions 26 of the lower case 11; if the lower case 11 is not integrated with the limiting portion 26, then an additional limiting portion 26 or a glue blocking structure 27 is disposed, and the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25 is applied in the area between the additional limiting portions 26 or the glue blocking structures 27.
After applying a reasonable amount of the thermally conductive structural adhesive 25, an external fixture is connected to the recess 241 of the side plate 24, and two battery cell stacks 2 are placed in the casing. Before the insertion into the casing, the battery cell stack 2 is compressed to a certain size under the clamping action of the fixture, so that the entirety width of the battery cell stack 2 including the side plate 24 is less than or equal to the width of the chamber 16 inside the casing 1. After the battery cell stack 2 is inserted into the casing, the fixture may be withdrawn through the recess 241 of the side plate 24, and the battery cell stack 2 slowly rebounds until the first reinforcing rib 246 of the side plate 24 contacts the long edge beam 141 and stops rebounding.
After the installation of some electrical connectors is completed, the foaming adhesive 29 is poured between the short edge beams 142 and the battery cell stack 2 and between the casing middle beam 15 and the battery cell stack 2. After the foaming adhesive 29 is cured and formed, and other electrical connectors and the battery management system (if any) are installed, the structural adhesive is applied on the battery cell stack 2, and the upper cap 12 is closed to complete the assembly of the pouch CTP battery pack.
The above multiple implementations provided by the disclosure may be combined with each other. In some embodiments, the pouch CTP battery pack may also be directly integrated into the chassis of the electric vehicle, which is not limited in the embodiments of the disclosure.
The above are only preferred embodiments of the disclosure and the embodiments are not intended to limit the disclosure. Any modifications, equivalent substitutions, and improvements made within the spirit and principles of the disclosure should be included in the protection scope of the disclosure.
