This application claims priority to Russian Patent Application No. 2007127356, filed on Jul. 18, 2007, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
This invention pertains to aircraft technology, specifically, aircraft with a main rotor. The invention aims to improve the aerodynamic characteristics while being simple in construction.
Currently known main rotor features rotor blades each with a jet running along its edge (to improve aerodynamic characteristics); the jets are connected to the jet engine (RU 2149799 C1, B64C27/18, 2000). Complexity of construction of such blade for a rotor with an internal channel as well as rotor's connection to the engine can be considered technical disadvantages.
This invention while simple in construction will improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the main rotor.
The above objective is achieved as follows: in a main rotor, with rotor blades and a device for improvement of aerodynamic characteristics, the mentioned device is constructed as a centrifugal fan mounted coaxial to the rotor (in the central part of the rotor); the fan blades rotate in direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the rotor blades of the rotor.
The rotor blades can be placed inside an external drum attached to their ends and fastened to the bushing with bolts; the centrifugal fan can be constructed as a disc with blades and without a spiral-snail casing.
Alternatively, the rotor blades can be mounted on the outside of a split bowl-shaped bushing while the centrifugal fan (constructed as a disc with blades and without a spiral-snail casing) is placed inside.
Rotor blades can be equipped with an external drum attached to their ends.
Introduction of the centrifugal fan coaxial to the rotor in the rotor's central part provides displacement (redistribution) of the air flow from the central zone of the main rotor to the peripheral zone, toward the rotating rotor blades where the rotor blades transfer the energy to the axis stream more efficiently, thus, improving the aerodynamic characteristics and lift of the rotor.
Main rotor features rotor blades (1), mounted on the outside of a split bowl-shaped bushing (2); and a centrifugal fan (3) with the disc-shaped blade wheel (4) and blades (5) (without the spiral-snail casing) which is mounted coaxially in the central part of the rotor, inside a split bowl-shaped bushing (2). The direction of rotation of the centrifugal fan blades (5) is opposite to that of the rotor blades (1). The rotor blades (1) can also be equipped with an external drum attached to their ends.
Alternatively, the rotor blades (1) can be encased in an external drum (7) attached to their ends, which, in turn, is fastened to a bushing (9) with bolts (8). A centrifugal fan (3) is mounted coaxial to the bushing (9) in the plane of rotation of rotor blades (1).
Main rotor functions as follows:
Rotor blades (1) and the blade wheel of the centrifugal fan (3) rotate in opposite directions. Blades (5) displace the airflow from the central zone to the peripheral zone of the disc (4) toward the rotor blades (1), thus increasing the pressure and velocity of the axis airflow and, correspondingly, lift and efficiency of the main rotor. As the number of revolutions of the centrifugal fan (3) changes, so do its characteristics, the velocity of the airflow supplied to the rotor blades and, subsequently, general regulation of the aerodynamic characteristics of the main rotor.
While this invention has been particularly shown and described with references to preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the scope of the invention encompassed by the appended claims.
