Claims
- 1. A bearing shell arrangement comprising:
a thermoplastic material; a filament fabric embedded in said thermoplastic material to form a bearing shell.
- 2. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:
a joint housing, said bearing shell being fixed in said joint housing; a spherical bearing surface is provided on said bearing shell; a bearing journal including a spherical surface and a pivot part which is mounted with said spherical surface rotatably and deflectably in said spherical bearing surface of the bearing shell.
- 3. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
said joint housing is mounted on one of chassis suspension or a steering mechanism of a vehicle.
- 4. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
said filament fabric includes glass fibers.
- 5. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
said filament fabric includes carbon fibers.
- 6. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
said filament fabric includes aramid fibers.
- 7. An arrangement in accordance with claim 1, wherein:
said filament fabric includes glass fibers, carbon fibers and aramid fibers.
- 8. A process of manufacturing a bearing shell from a thermoplastic with a spherical bearing surface for a ball and socket joint preferably for use in chassis suspensions or steering mechanisms of motor vehicles, which has essentially a joint housing and a bearing journal, which includes a spherical surface and a pivot part and which is mounted with the spherical surface rotatably and deflectably in the spherical bearing surface of the bearing shell fixed in the joint housing, the process comprising the steps of:
providing a sheet-shaped thermoplastic semifinished product, in which a filament fabric is embedded; mechanically forming a bearing shell blank with an essentially circular outer contour out of said sheet-shaped thermoplastic semifinished product; heating thermoplastic material of the thermoplastic semifinished product above its melting point; mechanical deforming in the bearing shell blank to have a spherical bearing surface subsequent to said heating.
- 9. A process in accordance with claim 8, further comprising:
forming in the circular outer contour of the bearing shell blank a slot-like recess extending toward a middle of the bearing shell blank.
- 10. A process in accordance with claim 9, wherein:
a width of the slot-like recess decreases from an end open toward an open edge area of the outer contour to an inner slot bottom.
- 11. A process in accordance with claim 8, wherein:
the bearing shell blank has a shape of a circular ring.
- 12. A process in accordance with claim 11, wherein:
the circular ring-shaped bearing shell blank is provided with a continuous recess from the circular outer contour to a circular inner contour.
- 13. A process in accordance with claim 11, wherein:
the circular bearing shell blank is provided with at least one said slot-like recess which is open toward the circular outer contour and extends in a direction of a center of the bearing shell blank.
- 14. A process in accordance with claim 8, further comprising:
injecting thermoplastic material without a filament fabric onto the bearing shell blank within a framework of said deforming to obtain the spherical bearing shell.
- 15. A process in accordance with claim 9, further comprising:
injecting thermoplastic material without a filament fabric onto the bearing shell blank within a framework of said deforming to obtain the spherical bearing shell.
- 16. A process of manufacturing a bearing shell arrangement, the process comprising the steps of:
providing a thermoplastic sheet with an embedded filament fabric; heating the thermoplastic sheet; deforming the heated thermoplastic sheet into a spherical shape to form a bearing shell with a spherical bearing surface.
- 17. A process in accordance with claim 16, further comprising:
providing a joint housing; mounting the bearing shell in the joint housing; providing a bearing journal with a spherical surface; rotatably and deflectably mounting the spherical surface of the bearing journal in the bearing shell.
- 18. A process in accordance with claim 17, wherein:
the thermoplastic sheet has a substantially circular outer contour; the thermoplastic sheet includes a thermoplastic material with a melting point; said heating is performed to heat the thermoplastic sheet above the melting point of the thermoplastic material; said deforming of the thermoplastic sheet is performed by mechanical deformation.
- 19. A process in accordance with claim 18, further comprising:
mounting the joint housing with the bearing shell and bearing journal in one of a chassis suspension or steering mechanism of a vehicle.
- 20. A process in accordance with claim 16, further comprising:
injecting thermoplastic material onto the bearing shell after said deforming.
