Embodiments described herein generally relate to bed coverings, and more particularly to bed coverings including openings at the foot region of the bed covering.
Bed coverings typically include sheets, quilts, blankets and otherwise that cover the mattress portion of a conventional bed. Typically the fitted sheet goes directly over the mattress and the accompanying flat sheet is used in conjunction with the fitted sheet. Above the flat sheet a blanket and/or comforter is typically used. The bed covering allows an individual to lie directly on the fitted sheet and slide the remaining coverings over their bodies while asleep. This traditional method has some shortcomings in certain instances. In particular some individuals have increased body temperatures while sleeping due to medical or other simple environmental conditions. Therefore these individuals may not feel comfortable under the flat sheet and accompanying comforter or blanket. One common approach to address this problem is the extension of a portion of the individual's body outwardly from the covering while in a sleeping position. Although this can be effective in providing some cooling, it would be advantageous to have a system that is more adapted to allow the user to release their feet to an exposed area while under the bed covering.

Exemplary embodiments disclosed herein describe a bed covering system including one or more bed coverings including a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and a blanket or comforter. The blanket or comforter bed coverings each include a slit opening at a foot end of the bed covering. Each slit opening is covered by a flap in a closed position. A magnetic closure device is integrated in the blanket or comforter for maintaining each flap in a closed position when no force is applied to the opening and for releasing the flap when force is applied to the opening.
In some exemplary embodiments, each flap is released from a closed position to an open position when force is applied to each opening from a user's feet.
Another exemplary embodiment disclosed herein describes at least one cover member which lays on a top surface of a bed, the cover member having an opening at its foot end, the opening including a flap formed by a top layer and a bottom layer each integrated with a magnetic strip for affixing the top layer and bottom layer to one another when the flap is in a closed position and for releasing the flap when force is applied to the opening.
In some exemplary embodiments, the opening receives a user's foot or feet.
The present invention relates to a bed covering system (“the system”) which permits a user to stick their feet out from one or more bed coverings without having to pull up the ends of the one or more bed coverings. The bed covering system includes one or more bed coverings that may each include an air pocket (i.e., opening) which a user may extend their feet through for cooling purposes. The air pocket is a slit in a bed covering along the width of the bed covering. The air pocket includes a flap for covering the opening and a magnetic strip is used to keep the flap in a closed position. A user lying underneath the one or more bed coverings can effortlessly kick their feet outwards through the air pockets in order to disconnect the attached magnets, and expose their feet through the slit of the one or more bed coverings, and once the body feels cooler, the user can slip their feet back into the one or more bed coverings.
The system may include a traditional fitted sheet, a flat sheet with a slit opening, a blanket with a slit opening, and a comforter with a slit opening. Further, the slit opening (i.e., air pocket) of the flat sheet may be aligned with the slit opening on a comforter or blanket that accompanies the bed covering system. The slit openings each include a magnetic strip connector that keeps the openings in a closed position normally. However, as desired, a user may kick open the split openings to expose their foot or feet through the openings while sleeping in the bed. This system allows the user to release their feet for some cooling exposure as desired.
The slit opening 20 includes a flap formed by a top layer and a bottom layer which are connected to one another to close the slit opening. The slit opening is open when the top layer and the bottom layer are disconnected. The top layer and the bottom layer each include a magnetic strip 22 for affixing the top and bottom layers to one another. In a preferred embodiment, each magnetic strip is a double sided magnetic strip. The magnetic strip 22 extends along the length of a flap, where the flap keeps the opening 20 in a normally closed position. When desired a user may kick the flap to expose the opening 20 and allow for their foot or feet to extend outside of the blanket 14 and flat sheet 12. This feature gives the user some exposure area as desired and then once complete the user may simply place their feet back under the comforter 14 as desired.
