Claims
- 1. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the end panels include a rigid outer frame; and wherein the rigid outer frame is made from removably connected rigid tubes.
- 2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 3. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 4. The assembly of claim 3, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 5. The assembly of claim 3, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 6. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 7. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 8. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the rigid tubes have ends with different cross-sectional diameters, and each rigid tube is fitted to an adjacent other rigid tube by sliding attachment of a larger diameter end over a smaller diameter end.
- 9. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the rigid outer frame includes at least one top member, two side members, and two corner members attaching respective side members to opposite ends of the top member.
- 10. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 11. The assembly of claim 10, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 12. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 14. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the end panels include a rigid outer frame; and wherein the rigid outer frame includes substantially parallel opposing top and bottom portions connected to substantially parallel opposing side portions.
- 15. The assembly of claim 14, further comprising rounded corners at connections of the top portion with the side portions.
- 16. The assembly of claim 14, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 17. The assembly of claim 14, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 18. The assembly of claim 17, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 19. The assembly of claim 17, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 20. The assembly of claim 14, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 21. The assembly of claim 20, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 22. The assembly of claim 14, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 23. The assembly of claim 22, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 24. The assembly of claim 14, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 25. The assembly of claim 24, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 26. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the end panels include a rigid outer frame; and wherein the rigid outer frame includes a top portion and first and second side portions, and at least one extension that extends at a substantially right angle to a plane defined by the top portion and the first and second side portions.
- 27. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the at least one extension includes a first extension attached to the first side portion, and a second extension attached to the second side portion.
- 28. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the at least one extension includes a plurality of connected segments.
- 29. The assembly of claim 28, wherein the plurality of segments are arranged to define a plane that is substantially perpendicular to a plane defined by the top portion and the first and second side portions.
- 30. The assembly of claim 28, wherein each of the at least one extensions includes three connected segments.
- 31. The assembly of claim 30, wherein the three segments are connected to form three sides of a rectangle.
- 32. The assembly of claim 31, wherein a first segment of the three segments is connected to the first side portion of the rigid outer frame.
- 33. The assembly of claim 32, wherein a second segment of the three segments is connected to the second side portion of the rigid outer frame.
- 34. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the at least one extension provides a base that allows the respective end panel to stand upright.
- 35. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 36. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 37. The assembly of claim 36, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 38. The assembly of claim 36, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 39. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 40. The assembly of claim 39, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 41. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 42. The assembly of claim 41, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 43. The assembly of claim 26, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 44. The assembly of claim 43, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 45. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the end panels include a rigid outer frame; and wherein the rigid outer frame includes a number of segments that are removably attached to each other.
- 46. The assembly of claim 45, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 47. The assembly of claim 45, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 48. The assembly of claim 47, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 49. The assembly of claim 47, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 50. The assembly of claim 45, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 51. The assembly of claim 50, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 52. The assembly of claim 45, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 53. The assembly of claim 52, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 54. The assembly of claim 45, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 55. The assembly of claim 54, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 56. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the end panels include a rigid outer frame; and wherein the end panel includes a fabric portion framed by the rigid outer frame.
- 57. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the fabric portion includes netting.
- 58. The assembly of claim 57, wherein the netting includes mesh material having openings of between about 0.25 inches and about 2 inches.
- 59. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the fabric portion includes at least one stabilizing strap spanning the fabric portion.
- 60. The assembly of claim 59, wherein the at least one stabilizing strap is made of nylon.
- 61. The assembly of claim 60, wherein the fabric portion includes a nylon border on an outer periphery.
- 62. The assembly of claim 61, wherein the nylon border includes a sleeve that accepts components of the rigid outer frame.
- 63. The assembly of claim 61, wherein the at least one stabilizing strap is attached to the netting and to the nylon border.
- 64. The assembly of claim 63, wherein the at least one stabilizing strap is attached to the netting and to the nylon border at top and bottom ends of the fabric portion.
- 65. The assembly of claim 60, wherein the at least one stabilizing strap is attached to the netting and to top and bottom portions of the rigid outer frame.
- 66. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the fabric portion is removably attached to the rigid outer frame.
- 67. The assembly of claim 66, wherein the fabric portion is fitted over the rigid outer frame.
- 68. The assembly of claim 67, wherein the fabric portion includes a stretch material that provides a tension fit with the rigid outer frame.
- 69. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the rigid outer frame includes a first fastening implement, the fabric portion includes a second fastening implement, and the first and second fastening implements cooperate to removably attach the fabric portion to the rigid outer frame.
- 70. The assembly of claim 69, wherein the fastening implements are snaps.
- 71. The assembly of claim 69, wherein the fastening implements are hook and loop fasteners.
- 72. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the fabric portion includes first and second fastening implements that cooperate to removably attach the fabric portion to the rigid outer frame.
- 73. The assembly of claim 72, wherein the fastening implements are snaps.
- 74. The assembly of claim 72, wherein the fastening implements are hook and loop fasteners.
- 75. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 76. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 77. The assembly of claim 76, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 78. The assembly of claim 76, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 79. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 80. The assembly of claim 79, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 81. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 82. The assembly of claim 81, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 83. The assembly of claim 56, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 84. The assembly of claim 83, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 85. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the connection pieces are rigid structures, and each said connection piece forms a substantially right angle with the respective connected end panel.
- 86. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the connection pieces are removably attached to the end panels and to the connecting material.
- 87. The assembly of claim 86, wherein the connection pieces are attached to the end panels by a connection mechanism.
- 88. The assembly of claim 87, wherein each said connection piece includes a rigid footing attached to the connecting material.
- 89. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 90. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 91. The assembly of claim 90, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 92. The assembly of claim 90, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 93. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 94. The assembly of claim 93, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 95. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.
- 96. The assembly of claim 95, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 97. The assembly of claim 85, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the end panels are disposed in fixed positions.
- 98. The assembly of claim 97, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 99. A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein each said connection piece includes a first end connected to the connecting material and a second end connected to the end panels, and an angled joint between the first and second ends.
- 100. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the first end is removably attached to the connecting material and the second end is removably attached to the end panels.
- 101. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the angled joint is adjustable.
- 102. The assembly of claim 101, wherein the adjustable angled joint has a plurality of fixed stops.
- 103. The assembly of claim 101, wherein the adjustable angled joint has a stop fixed at a substantially right angle.
- 104. The assembly of claim 101, wherein the adjustable angled joint has a range of adjustability that allows the first end to be folded against the end panel.
- 105. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 106. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 107. The assembly of claim 106, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 108. The assembly of claim 106, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 109. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 110. The assembly of claim 109, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 111. The assembly of claim 99, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.

A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for reducing an amount of slack of connecting material disposed between the end panels when the connecting material is disposed beneath the mattress and the end panels are placed against opposite sides of the mattress; wherein the mechanism is a buckle; wherein the mechanism includes a strap tensioner in communication with the connecting material, which provides releasable attachment of the mechanism with the connection material; and wherein the mechanism further includes a ratchet device in communication with the strap tensioner, which controls travel of the connecting material with respect to the mechanism.
- 116. The assembly of claim 115, wherein the mechanism further includes a trigger device that actuates the ratchet device.
- 117. The assembly of claim 115, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 118. The assembly of claim 115, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 119. The assembly of claim 118, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
- 120. The assembly of claim 118, wherein the strips of webbing are made of a material including nylon.
- 121. The assembly of claim 115, wherein the rigid outer frame is metal.
- 122. The assembly of claim 121, wherein the rigid outer frame is steel.
- 123. The assembly of claim 115, wherein the connection pieces include a mechanism for decreasing the length of connecting material disposed between the end panels.

A bed guard assembly, comprising:a plurality of end panels; flexible connecting material for placement beneath a mattress; and connection pieces that connect the flexible connecting material to the end panels such that at least one end panel of the plurality of end panels opposes another end panel of the plurality of end panels when the flexible connecting material is disposed beneath a mattress; wherein the connection pieces include a mounting plate that is removably attached to one of the end panels.
- 128. The assembly of claim 127, wherein the mounting plate includes apertures through which the connecting material passes.
- 129. The assembly of claim 127, wherein the mounting plate includes a mechanism for fixing the connecting material in place with respect to the mounting plate.
- 130. The assembly of claim 129, wherein the mechanism is a buckle.
- 131. The assembly of claim 129, wherein the mechanism is a clamp.
- 132. The assembly of claim 127, wherein the mounting plate includes a mechanism for adjusting the position at which the mounting plate is removably attached to the end panel.
- 133. The assembly of claim 127, wherein the plurality of end panels are two end panels.
- 134. The assembly of claim 127, wherein the flexible connecting material includes strips of webbing.
- 135. The assembly of claim 134, wherein the strips of webbing include a first strip of webbing connected to first ends of the end panels, and a second strip of webbing connected to second ends of the end panels.
