DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new bed skirt device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the bed skirt assembly 10 generally comprises a box spring 12 of a bed 14. The box spring 12 may be a box spring of any conventional size, including but not being limited to, a queen size box spring and king size box spring. A fitted sheet 16 is provided which is positionable around the box spring 12. The fitted sheet 16 is manufactured in each of the conventional sizes of beds, including but not being limited to, twin size beds, queen size beds and king size beds. The fitted sheet 16 has an upper panel 18 and a perimeter panel 20 extending downwardly from the upper panel 18 and the perimeter panel 20 has a distal edge 22 with respect to the upper panel 18. The upper panel 18 lies on a top 23 of the box spring 12 having the perimeter panel 20 surrounding the box spring 12 when the fitted sheet 16 is positioned around the box spring 12. Additionally, the perimeter panel 20 has a front side 24, a back side 26, a first lateral side 28 and a second lateral side 30.

An elastomeric band 32 is attached to the distal edge 22 of the perimeter panel 20 of the fitted sheet 16. The elastomeric band 32 biases the distal edge 22 to close upon itself thereby facilitating the perimeter panel 20 of the fitted sheet 16 to wrap around a bottom 34 of the box spring 12 for retaining the fitted sheet 16 on the box spring 12. A skirt 36 is attached to the fitted sheet 16 such that the skirt 36 hangs downwardly when the fitted sheet 16 is positioned around the box spring 12. Furthermore, the skirt 36 is formed into a plurality of ruffles 38 to enhance the ornamental appeal of the box spring 12 when the fitted sheet 16 is positioned around the box spring 12.

The skirt 36 has an upper edge 40 and a lower edge 42; the upper edge 40 of the skirt 36 is attached to an intersection between the upper panel 18 and the perimeter panel 20 of the fitted sheet 16. In this way the skirt 36 hangs downwardly along the perimeter panel 20 when the fitted sheet 16 is positioned around the box spring 12. Additionally, the skirt 36 extends along the first lateral side 28 and the second lateral side 30 and the back side 26 of the perimeter panel 20 of the fitted sheet 16. The skirt 36 does not extend along the front side 24 of the perimeter panel 20 to accommodate a headboard 44 of the bed 14.

In an alternative embodiment 46 shown in FIG. 7, the upper panel 18 defines the fitted sheet 16 and the upper edge 40 of the skirt 36 is attached to a perimeter edge 48 of the upper panel 18. The skirt 36 extends along a first lateral side 50, a second lateral side 52 and a back side 54 of the perimeter edge 48. A plurality of ties 56 is each coupled to and extends downwardly from a bottom 58 of the upper panel 18 thereby facilitating the ties 56 to be tied to a frame of the bed 14. In this way the fitted sheet 16 can be secured to a platform bed, for example, or other type of bed that does not employ a box spring. The plurality of ties 56 is arranged into a plurality of pairs of ties 60 that are evenly spaced apart and distributed along a respective one of the first lateral side 50 and the second lateral side 52 of the perimeter edge 48 of the upper panel 18.

In use, the fitted sheet 16 is positioned around the box spring 12 such that the skirt 36 hangs downwardly along the box spring 12. In this way the skirt 36 is secured to the box spring 12 in a manner that makes it impossible for them to fall off. Thus, the ruffles 38 enhance the ornamental appearance of the bed 14 for an extended duration of time. The fitted sheet 16 and the skirt 36 can be removed from the box spring 12 at any time for laundering.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
