Claims
- 1. A bed enclosure for use with a hospital bed to restrain movement of a patient, the bed enclosure comprising a shell located over the bed to restrain the patient, a timer coupled to the shell, and a reset button for reinitializing the timer.
- 2. The bed enclosure of claim 1, wherein the timer counts up from zero each time the reset button is pressed.
- 3. The bed enclosure of claim 1, wherein the timer includes a digital indicator configured to display minutes and seconds since reinitializing of the timer.
- 4. The bed enclosure of claim 1, wherein the shell includes longitudinally extending first and second sides, a first timer being coupled to the first side, and a second timer being coupled to the second side.
- 5. The bed enclosure of claim 4, wherein the first timer is in communication with the second timer such that a single reset button reinitializes both the first timer and the second timer.
- 6. The bed enclosure of claim 1, wherein the shell includes a roof, a bottom panel, a wall connected to and extending between the bottom panel and the roof, and a curtain formed in the wall, the curtain being movable relative to a remainder of the wall between a first position to form an opening providing access between the interior and exterior of the shell and a second position in which the shell forms a complete enclosure.
- 7. The bed enclosure of claim 6, further comprising an IV slot formed in the wall of the shell adjacent to the movable curtain, the IV slot being configured to allow a patient with an IV attached to enter and exit the bed to which the shell of the bed enclosure is attached without removal of the IV from the patient.
- 8. The bed enclosure of claim 6, wherein the curtain includes a top edge configured to be secured to the remainder of the wall when the curtain is in the second position.
- 9. The bed enclosure of claim 8, further comprising a zipper having a first row of teeth attached to the top edge of the curtain and a second row of teeth attached to the remainder of the wall so that the zipper secures the top edge to the remainder of the wall when the curtain is in the second position.
- 10. The bed enclosure of claim 9, further comprising a sensor for producing an illumination signal when the zipper is not fully closed, and at least one light coupled to the shell which is illuminated when the sensor produces the illumination signal.
- 11. The bed enclosure of claim 1, further comprising a skeletal structure supporting the shell and being attached to a vertically adjustable intermediate frame of the bed.
- 12. The bed enclosure of claim 1, wherein the shell includes a wall having an exterior surface, the timer and the reset button being coupled to the exterior surface and accessible to a caregiver positioned adjacent the bed.
- 13. A hospital bed timer for use with a bed including a frame and a patient support surface coupled to the frame, the timer comprising:
a counter configured to count successive time increments; an indicator coupled to the counter and configured to provide a variable display of time increments accumulated since initialization of the counter; and a reset button coupled to the counter to initialize the counter.
- 14. The hospital bed timer of claim 13, wherein each time the reset button is pressed, the counter is initialized and counts up from zero.
- 15. The hospital bed timer of claim 13, wherein the indicator comprises a digital indicator configured to display minutes and seconds since initialization of the counter.
- 16. The hospital bed timer of claim 13, wherein the bed includes an enclosure comprising a shell located over the patient support surface to restrain the patient, the timer being coupled to the shell.
- 17. A hospital bed timer for use with a hospital bed, the timer comprising:
means for counting successive time increments, the counting means coupled to the bed; means for displaying time increments accumulated since initialization of the counting means; and means for initializing the counting means.
- 18. The hospital bed timer of claim 17, wherein the counting means counts up from zero each time the reset means initializes the counting means.
- 19. The hospital bed timer of claim 17, wherein the indicating means comprises a digital indicator configured to display minutes and seconds since initialization of the counting means.
- 20. The hospital bed timer of claim 17, wherein the reset means comprises a reset button coupled to the counting means.
