Claims
- 1. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys;
- an endless belt operably disposed around said pulleys;
- at least one electrical device retainer on said belt;
- a pulley rotator attached to at least one of said pulleys;
- at least one pair of tooling members, each said pair of tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on opposing sides of said belt; and
- a reciprocator cam assembly comprising:
- at least one rotatable cam corresponding to each pair of tooling members, each said cam having a first and a second face containing a trough,
- a camshaft motor attached to each said rotatable cam,
- a first lever arm corresponding to each cam, said first lever arm being attached to said corresponding first tooling member and having a cam end slidably attached in said trough of said first face of said corresponding cam, and
- a second lever arm corresponding to each said cam and being attached to said corresponding second tooling member and having a cam end slidably attached in said trough of said second face of said corresponding cam.
- 2. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys;
- an endless belt operably disposed around said pulleys, said endless belt having opposing sides;
- at least one electrical device supported on said endless belt;
- a pulley rotator operably attached to at least one of said pulleys;
- at least one pair of tooling members, each said pair of tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on said opposing sides of said belt and directly opposing one another and mounted to a common monorail barrel roller assembly; and
- a reciprocator cam assembly operably attached to said first and second tooling members.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein each said electrical device retainer comprises at least one pin protruding from said belt.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein each said rotatably pulley is rotatable about a corresponding vertical axis and wherein each said first and second tooling member reciprocates along a horizontal axis.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a first synchronizer operably attached to said rotator and said reciprocator cam assembly.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the electrical devices are contained in a frame having a top portion containing indexing holes and a bottom portion, said apparatus further comprising:
- an electrical device alignment and support track positioned relative to said belt; and
- a pulley servomotor operably attached to said at least two rotatable pulleys.
- 7. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys;
- an endless belt operably disposed on said rotatable pulleys, said endless belt having opposing sides;
- at least one electrical device retainer on said endless belt;
- a pulley rotator operably attached to at least one of said pulleys;
- at least one pair of tooling members, each said pair of tooling members having at least one first tooling member and at least one second tooling member disposed on said opposing sides of said belt and directly opposing one another; and
- a reciprocator cam assembly comprising:
- a rotatable first cam corresponding to each said first tooling member, each said first cam having a first face containing a trough,
- a first cam shaft connected to each said first cam,
- a first camshaft motor operably attached to said first cam shaft,
- a first lever arm corresponding to each said first cam, each said first lever arm attached to said corresponding first tooling member and having a cam end slidably attached in said trough of said first face of said corresponding first cam,
- a rotatable second cam corresponding to each said second tooling member, each said second having a second face containing a trough,
- a second cam shaft connected to each said second cam,
- a second camshaft motor operably attached to said second cam shaft,
- a second lever arm corresponding to each said second cam, each said second lever arm attached to said corresponding second tooling member and having a cam end slidably attached in said trough of said second face of said corresponding second cam, and
- a synchronizer operably attached to said first cam shaft and said second cam shaft.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein:
- said first camshaft motor comprises a first cam servomotor;
- said second camshaft motor comprises a second cam servomotor; and
- said synchronizer comprises a computer.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein said computer further synchronizes said first and second cams with said pulley rotator.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein:
- said first camshaft motor comprises a cam servomotor; and
- said second camshaft motor comprises a cam servomotor.
- 11. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices, comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys;
- an endless belt operably disposed around said pulleys;
- a plurality of electrical device retaining pins disposed in said belt;
- a pulley rotator operably attached to at least one of said pulleys;
- a plurality of paired tooling members, each said plurality of paired tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on said opposing sides of said belt and directly opposing one another;
- a reciprocator cam assembly operably attached to said first and second tooling members; and
- an electrical device alignment and support track positioned adjacent to said belt.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein:
- said at least two rotatable pulleys comprise two pulleys rotatable about a vertically oriented axis; and,
- said first and second tooling members are reciprocated in a horizontal direction.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said first synchronizier comprises a computer.
- 14. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys, each with a circumference and a top face and a bottom face, wherein said pulleys are provided with a series of protrusions spaced around the circumference;
- an endless belt with an inside edge and an outside edge, and with a series of engaging holes provided thereon to engage with said protrusions, said endless belt having a pulley side opposing a device side and being disposed around said pulleys with said pulley side contacting said pulleys such that rotation of said pulleys will cause said belt to travel around said pulleys in conformance with a path determined by placement of said pulleys;
- a retainer which maintains the devices on said belt;
- rotator for at least one of said pulleys;
- plurality of paired tooling members, each of said paired tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on opposing edges of said belt and directly opposing so as to cooperate and perform a tooling operation on the leads when reciprocated toward each other along a common axis;
- a reciprocator cam assembly which moves said first and second tooling members toward and away from each other along a common axis to perform said tooling operation; and
- a synchronizer to synchronize said rotator and said reciprocator cam assembly.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the protrusions are centered around the circumference with respect to the top face and the bottom face, and are positioned at 45 degree intervals around the circumference.
- 16. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys;
- an endless belt operably disposed around said pulleys, said endless belt having opposing sides;
- at least one electrical device retainer on said belt;
- a pulley rotator operably attached to at least one of said pulleys;
- at least one pair of tooling members, each said pair of tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on said opposing sides of said belt and directly opposing one another;
- a reciprocator cam assembly operably attached to said first and second tooling members; and
- a first synchronizer operably attached to said rotator and said reciprocator cam assembly.
- 17. An apparatus for trimming and forming leads on electrical devices comprising:
- at least two rotatable pulleys, each with a circumference and a top face and a bottom face, wherein said pulleys are provided with a series of protrusions spaced around the circumference;
- an endless belt, with a series of engaging holes provided thereon to engage with said protrusions, said endless belt having a pulley side opposing a device side and being disposed around said pulleys with said pulley side contacting said pulleys such that rotation of said pulleys will cause said belt to travel around said pulleys in conformance with a path determined by placement of said pulleys;
- a retainer which maintains the devices on said belt;
- a rotator for at least one of said pulleys;
- a plurality of paired tooling members, each of said paired tooling members having first and second tooling members disposed on said opposing sides of said belt and directly opposing so as to cooperate and perform a tooling operation on the leads when reciprocated toward each other along a common axis;
- a reciprocator cam assembly which moves said first and second tooling members toward and away from each other along a common axis to perform said tooling operation;
- a synchronizer to synchronize said rotator and said reciprocator cam assembly; and
- a series of alignment sensors on said tooling members, said alignment sensors sensing in conjunction with said engaging holes in said belt, and said alignment sensors being tied to a computer to ensure alignment of said devices during tooling.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein said pulley servomotor comprises a three-phase servomotor with a gear reducer and a braking device.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising a bearing assembly affixed to each said first lever arm and said second lever arm.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising a mounting surface, to which said at least two rotatable pulleys are rotatably mounted, and through which said first lever arms and said second lever arms are allowed to pass via a series of lever arm slots in said mounting surface, wherein one lever arm slot corresponds to one lever arm.
