Claims
- 1. A belt press, comprising:a frame; a first belt movably mounted on the frame; a second belt movably mounted on the frame; a curved inlet guide carried on the frame, the inlet guide having a fixed profile, a first end and a second end, with the inlet guide having a decreasing radius from the first end to the second end, and with the second end of the inlet guide pivotally mounted on the frame; and a positioning assembly carried on the frame, the positioning assembly having a first end and a second end, with the first end of the positioning assembly attached to the inlet guide substantially adjacent the inlet guide first end and with the second end of the positioning assembly pivotally attached to the frame, and wherein movement of the positioning assembly moves the first end of the inlet guide between a first position and a second position to change an inlet angle between the belts and pivots the second end of the inlet guide on the frame without changing the fixed profile.
- 2. The belt press as claimed in claim 1, wherein the inlet guide is attached to the frame at a single pivot point.
- 3. The belt press as claimed in claim 1, wherein the positioning assembly includes a piston/cylinder assembly.
- 4. A belt press for dewatering sludge, comprising:a frame; a plurality of first guide rollers rotatably mounted on the frame, with a first belt movable around the first guide rollers; a plurality of second guide rollers rotatably mounted on the frame, with a second belt movable around the second guide rollers; a curved inlet guide carried on the frame, the inlet guide having a fixed profile, a first end and a second end, with a decreasing radius from the first end to the second end, and with the second end of the inlet guide pivotably mounted on the frame, wherein the first end of the inlet guide has a radius of about six feet and the second end has a radius of about one foot; a positioning assembly carried on the frame, the positioning assembly having a first end and a second end, with the second end of the positioning assembly attached to the frame and the first end of the positioning assembly attached to the inlet guide substantially adjacent the inlet guide first end such that movement of the positioning assembly moves the inlet guide first end between a first position and a second position to change an inlet angle between the belts and pivots the second end of the inlet guide at a single pivot point on the frame without changing the fixed profile, and wherein movement of the inlet guide first end changes a tangent point of the first belt with respect to the second belt which changes the pressure on sludge between the belts while maintaining the substantially same pressure rise profile.
- 5. A method of separating a liquid/solid material with a belt press having a frame, a first belt, a second belt, a positioning assembly having a first end and a second end, and a curved inlet guide having a fixed profile, the inlet guide having a first end connected to the positioning assembly first end and a second end pivotally mounted on the frame, the method comprising the steps of:directing the material to a wedge zone of the belt press formed by the two belts; directing the first and second belts over the curved inlet guide fixed profile such that the pressure on the material between the belts is continuously increased to press out liquid from the material; and moving the positioning assembly to move the first end of the inlet guide between a first position and a second position and pivot the second end of the inlet guide on the frame without changing the fixed profile while maintaining substantially the same pressure rise profile.
