Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains to the field of hair care devices, and more specifically to the field of hair coloring protective devices.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The prior art has put forth several designs for hair coloring protective devices. Among these are:

U.S. Pat. No. 4,368,545 to Elisabeth Seidman describes a device for protecting the face from solutions used on the hair. A channel shaped flexible body mountable around the head following the hairline. The device is provided with valves for discarding the solution caught in the channel.

U.S. Pat. No. 4,481,680 to Rosetta Mason and Ruthie J. Crowe describes a flexible, crescent-shaped plannar strip with a raised rib along its inner concave edge. The raised rib is wrapped around the circumference of the user's head and the ends of the crescent-shaped strip are fastened together. Gutters of various dimension may be formed by manipulation of the flexible strip.

U.S. Pat. No. 5,042,511 to Khalil Haddad describes a device and method of selective coloring of hair. The device comprises an open helmet made of a circumferential head band and one or more brace bands extending from the head band over the crown of the wearer's head. The helmet has a plurality of fastening means with knob-like ends, adapted to accommodate a plurality of eyelets.

None of these prior art references describe the present invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved hair coloring protective device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention, hereinafter referred as Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band, is a specially designed headband worn by persons undergoing a hair-dye procedure. The band adjustably divides the hair and scalp into four sections to facilitate sectioning of the hair, and also serves to protect the wearer from drips and runs of hair dye into face, eyes, and clothing. Manufactured by the Miscellaneous Manufacturing industries, Standard Industrial Code 3999, a group of industries which includes those producing barber and stylist's equipment as well as hair work and wigs, Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band is fabricated in a one-size-fits-all, elastic woven textile or rubber material, this material being impervious to hair dyes and fitted, along the lower edge, with a lip or gutter intended to catch and retain such dye as may drip from the hair during application. The Hair Dye Band is designed to encompass the wearer's head, being pulled down over the hair like a hat or cap. A strip or strips of cotton can be placed around the hair line to prevent unwanted coloration of skin or clothing. From the band which encircles the head, two further bands are attached, and these two bands go up and over the head. One band is anchored front and back, and goes over the head in the sagittal plane, the other is anchored on each side of the head, and goes over the head in the lateral plane. Each of these two cross-bands are affixed to the circular base-band in order to slide, and various means of attachment are employed to this end. For example, the over-the-head bands are folded at the ends over the base-band and stitched. The strips can be opened to check progress of hair dye or if cap is transparent, dye progress can be seen without the need to open the strips. In another embodiment they fold and fasten with VELCRO® strips. In yet another embodiment they slide along the base-band via a grooved track-and-rail configuration. The reason the two over-the-head bands must slide is that the hair-dyeing process requires the sectioning of the subject's hair and scalp. The basic design of Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band accomplishes a sectioning of the hair into quadrants or quarters, a time-honored approach. Then, by repositioning the two over-the-head bands, the stylist alters the arrangement to achieve smaller sections where required in the case of exceptionally thick or long hair. Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band, as noted, is impervious to dyes and hair-coloring products, and is machine washable between uses.

Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band, an adjustable headband appliance for use in hair-dyeing processes, presents a number of distinct and significant benefits and advantages. Foremost, the Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band enables both professional stylists and do-it-yourself consumers to more easily and effectively perform hair-dyeing operations, as the specialized hair band serves to section the subject's hair and scalp into adjustable quadrants, the preferred mode for dyeing hair. And because Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band features a pair of adjustable over-the head bands, one running front-to-back, the other side-to-side, the quadrants or sections created by the band are made smaller or larger. When dealing with a subject possessed of extra long or thick hair, for example, the stylist reduces the area of the sections, when working with shorter or thinner hair, the full quadrants provide the proper sectioning without adjustment. Produced as an elastic, one-size-fits-all product, Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band is machine-washable and highly durable, designed to provide a long and reliable working life in even the busiest salon or beauty shop. And because Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band is designed to intercept runs and drips of hair dye, this unique adjustable band also protects the wearer from hair dye running or dripping down face and neck, into the eyes or onto the clothing. At present, hair-dyeing operations require the use of numerous spring-clips to isolate and section-off the hair being dyed, a time-consuming and tedious procedure. But with Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band, the stylist has no need of clips, using instead the simple, adjustable, one-piece band to achieve the necessary sectioning. Comfortable and easy to use, Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band is eminently affordable as well, for either salon or home use.

An adjustable, sectioning headband which fits over the head, dividing the hair and scalp into four quadrants for sectional dyeing, Bernice Riley's Hair Dye Band, by sectioning the hair, makes hair-dyeing easier for both professional beauticians and do-it-yourself consumers, while also preventing hair-dye from running into the subject's face, eyes, neck, and clothing.

Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.
