Claims
- 1. A microwave frequency switching circuit for coupling a microwave frequency signal through a phase shift circuit between an input/output port and an input port or an output port selectively in accordance with a pair of control signals comprising:
- a first pair of transmission lines coupled together at one end and also coupled to the input/output port at said one end;
- a second pair of transmission lines coupled together at one end and also coupled to the input of the phase shifter at said one end;
- a third pair of transmission lines coupled together at one end and also coupled to the output of the phase shifter at said one end;
- a first pair of transistors having output and control electrodes fed by the pair of control signals;
- wherein the output electrode of each transistor is coupled to a corresponding end of each one of the transmission lines of the first pair of transmission lines and to a corresponding end of one of the transmission lines of the second pair and one of the transmission lines of the third pair;
- a second pair of transistors having output and control electrodes fed by the pair of control signals; and
- wherein the output electrode of one of the transistors is coupled to a second end of the second one of the transmission line of the second pair and to the output port, and the output electrode of the second transistor of the second pair is coupled to an end of the second one of the transmission lines of the third pair and to the input port.
- 2. A microwave frequency switching circuit as recited in claim 1 wherein each one of such microwave frequency transmission lines has an electrical, length corresponding to (n .lambda..sub.c /4) where n is an whole odd number of wavelengths and .lambda..sub.c is the wavelength of the nominal or centerband operating frequency for the circuit.
- 3. A switching element having a common port, a pair of branch ports, and a pair of intermediate ports comprising:
- means for providing an electrical path between the pair of intermediate ports;
- a first pair of transmission lines coupled together at a first common junction and to the common port;
- a second pair of transmission lines coupled together at a second common junction and to a first one of the pair of intermediate ports, having a first end coupled to a first end of the first pair of transmission lines, and having a second end coupled to a first one of the pair of branch ports;
- a third pair of transmission lines coupled together at a third common junction and to a second one of the pair of intermediate ports, having a first end coupled to a second end of the first pair of transmission lines, and having a second end coupled to a second one of the pair of branch ports;
- a first pair of transistors, each transistor having output and control electrodes, with the output electrode of each one of such transistors being coupled to a corresponding end of the second pair of transmission lines; and
- a second pair of transistors, each transistor having output and control electrodes, with the output electrode of each one of such transistors being coupled to a corresponding end of the third pair of transmission lines.
- 4. The switch element as recited in claim 3 wherein a first control signal is fed to first transistors of each pair of transistors and a second different control signal is fed to second transistors of each pair of transistors to steer electromagnetic energy between the common port and a first one of the pair of branch ports in response to a first state of said control signals and to steer electromagnetic energy between a second one of the pair of branch ports and the common port in response to a second different state of said control signals.
- 5. The switch element as recited in claim 3 wherein each one of such transmission lines has an electrical length equal to an odd multiple of a quarter of a wavelength of a corresponding operating frequency.
