Claims
- 1. A complex bimetallic salt having the generic formula CuAlX.sub.4 L.sub.m wherein X is selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and fluorine atoms, L is a complexible ligand selected from the group consisting of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 acetylene, a C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 conjugated diolefin, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.16 polyolefin, a C.sub.5 -C.sub.10 cyclic olefin and a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 diolefin and m is equal to the complexing stoichiometry of L and is an integer ranging from 1 to 4.
- 2. A complex bimetallic salt having the generic formula CuAlCl.sub.4 L.sub.m wherein L is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 acetylene and m is an integer ranging from 1 to 4.
- 3. The salt of claim 2 wherein L is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 acetylene and m is 1.
- 4. The salt of claim 3 wherein L is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 acetylene.
- 5. The salt of claim 4 wherein L is acetylene.
- 6. The salt of claim 4 wherein L is methyl acetylene.
- 7. The salt of claim 4 wherein L is ethyl acetylene.
- 8. A compound that has the structural formula RC.tbd.CH:Cu(AlCl.sub.4)
- wherein R represents hydrogen, vinyl, ethynyl, or an alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
- 9. The compound as set forth in claim 8 wherein R represents ethynyl.
- 10. The compound as set forth in claim 8 wherein R represents vinyl.
