Claims
- 1. Method for the clinical removal of low density lipoproteins (LDL) from blood or blood serum in an extracorporeal treatment, comprising binding said low density lipoproteins to a binder consisting of sulphated polyvinyl alcohol which is cross-linked to a water insoluble product.
- 2. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 20% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
- 3. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 50% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
- 4. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 65% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
- 5. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is in the form of a hydrogel which is applied or not to a carrier.
- 6. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is so cross-linked that after swelling in a physiological salt solution the weight ratio of swollen gel to dry matter is 10 to 75 g/g.
- 7. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is so cross-linked that after swelling in a physiological salt solution the weight ratio of swollen gel to dry matter is 30 to 50 g/g.
- 8. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is present on the surface of a polyvinyl alcohol fiber.
- 9. Method according to claim 8, characterized in that the fiber is in the form of tape, and has a thickness of 0.1 to 2 .mu.m and a width of 0.5 to 6 .mu.m.
