Claims
- 1. An emulsifying composition suitable for emulsifying hydrocarbons in water and promoting bacterial ingestion of the emulsified hydrocarbons, comprising a mixture of non-bactericide, biologically decomposable organic compounds wherein at least a first member of the organic compound mixture has lipophilic and hydrophilic functional groups that are capable of causing emulsification of hydrocarbons in water, at least a second member of the organic compound mixture is a nonionogenic or anionogenic tenside which comprises at least one biologically decomposable compound formula selected from the group consisting of fatty alcohol polyglycol ethers, fatty alcohol polyglycol ether sulfates an alkali metal salts thereof and any combination thereof, and at least a third member of the organic compound mixture has one or more functional groups that are recognizable by receptors of bacterial cell membranes as being absorbable, an overall property of the organic compound mixture being the ability to cause ingestion of the emulsifying composition by bacterial cells.
- 2. An emulsifying composition according to claim 1 wherein the weight percentage of the tenside within the emulsifier composition is between 5 and 70 percent relative to the total weight of the emulsifying composition and the emulsifying composition has a neutral to basic pH.
- 3. An emulsifying composition according to claim 2 wherein the weight percentage of the tenside within the emulsifying composition is between 10 and 39 percent.
- 4. An emulsifying composition according to claim 2 wherein the emulsifying composition has a basic pH.
- 5. An emulsifying composition according to claim 2 which contains a mixture of inorganic and organic compounds in addition to the first, second and third members.
