Claims
- 1. A method for control of odor production in waste containing fecal matter or urine or combination thereof, the steps comprising:
- adding to the waste an effective amount of a composition comprising a viable Pseudomonas sp. isolated from hog manure which degrades ammonia at a level of at least 500 ppm of ammonia in fecal matter, urine or a combination thereof;
- mixing the composition into the waste; and
- aerating the waste to maintain an aerobic environment wherein the Pseudomonas sp. reduces the production of odor.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is a mixture of Pseudomonas putida PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044 and Pseudomonas fluorescens PFL 2.1 deposited as NRRL-21658.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises at least 1.times.10.sup.6 colony forming units of the Pseudomonas sp.
- 4. A method for control of fecal odor production in waste containing fecal matter or urine or combination thereof, comprising:
- (a) adding to the waste an effective amount of a composition comprising a viable Pseudomonas sp. isolated from hog manure which degrades ammonia at a level of at least 500 ppm of ammonia in fecal matter, urine or a combination thereof; and
- (b) mixing the composition into the waste wherein the Pseudomonas sp. reduces the production of odor.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is a mixture of Pseudomonas putida PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044 and Pseudomonas fluorescens PFL 2.1 deposited as NRRL-21658.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the composition comprises at least 1.times.10.sup.6 colony forming units of the Pseudomonas sp.
- 7. A method for control of odor production in waste water containing fecal matter or urine or combination thereof, the steps comprising:
- adding to the waste an effective amount of a composition comprising Pseudomonas sp. PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044;
- mixing the composition into the waste; and
- aerating the waste to maintain an aerobic environment wherein the Pseudomonas sp. reduces the production of odor.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is a mixture of the Pseudomonas putida deposited as PPU 9.0 as NRRL-B-30044 and Pseudomonas fluorescens PFL 2.1 deposited as NRRL-21658.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein the composition comprises at least 1.times.10.sup.6 colony forming units of the Pseudomonas sp.
- 10. A method for control of odor production in waste water containing fecal matter or urine or combination thereof, comprising:
- adding to the waste an effective amount of a composition comprising Pseudomonas sp. PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044; and
- mixing the composition into the waste wherein the Pseudomonas sp. reduces the production of odor.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is a mixture of the Pseudomonas putida PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044 and Pseudomonas fluorescens PFL 2.1 deposited as NRRL-21658.
- 12. The method of claim 10 wherein the composition comprises at least 1.times.10.sup.6 colony forming units of the Pseudomonas sp.
- 13. A method for control of fecal odor production in waste containing fecal matter or urine or combination thereof, comprising:
- (a) providing a composition which comprises
- (1) water;
- (2) an alkali metal nitrate in an amount between about 0.1 and 5% by weight of the water and optionally a buffering amount of monoammonium phosphate; and
- (3) a Pseudomonas sp. isolated from hog manure which degrades ammonia at a level of at least 500 ppm of ammonia in fecal matter, urine or a combination thereof;
- (c) holding the composition at a temperature between about 8 and 35.degree. C. to provide a preserved bacterium; and
- (d) mixing the composition into the waste wherein the Pseudomonas sp. reduces the production of odor.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is a mixture of Pseudomonas putida PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044 and Pseudomonas fluorescens PFL 2.1 deposited as NRRL-21658.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein the Pseudomonas sp. is Pseudomonas putida PPU 9.0 deposited as NRRL-B-30044.
- 16. The method of claim 13 wherein the composition comprises at least 1.times.10.sup.6 colony forming units of the Pseudomonas sp.
- 17. The method of claim 13 wherein the alkali metal is sodium.
- 18. The method of claim 13 wherein the monoammonium is included in a weight ratio between about 1:1 and 125:1 alkali metal to ammonium nitrate.
