Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a biphenyl derivative represented by the following formula (I): ##STR7## in which R.sub.0 and R.sub.1 stand for a methyl group or ethyl group; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 stand for a lower alkyl group and R.sub.2 stands for an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, said process comprising alkylating a compound represented by the following formula (IV): ##STR8## wherein R.sub.2 stands for an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms with an alkylating agent comprising dimethyl sulfate or diethyl sulfate in the presence of a solvent comprising a lower aliphatic saturated alcohol such that the lower aliphatic group of said alcohol provides the R.sub.3, R.sub.4 or both R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 groups of said biphenyl derivative.
- 2. The process according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.4 is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
- 3. The process according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 stand for a methyl group.
- 4. A process for the preparation of a biphenyl derivative presented by the following formula (I): ##STR9## in which R.sub.0 and R.sub.1 stand for a methyl group or ethyl group; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 stand for a lower alkyl group and R.sub.2 stands for an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, said process comprising alkylating a compound represented by the following formula (V): ##STR10## wherein R.sub.2 stands for an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms with an alkylating agent comprising dimethyl sulfate or diethyl sulfate in the presence of a solvent comprising a lower aliphatic saturated alcohol such that the lower aliphatic group of said alcohol provides the R.sub.3, R.sub.4 or both R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 groups of said biphenyl derivative.
- 5. The process according to claim 4, wherein R.sub.0 is a methyl group and R.sub.1 is an ethyl group.
- 6. The process according to claim 5, wherein R.sub.2 is a methyl group.
- 7. The process according to claim 6, wherein R.sub.4 stands for an ethyl group.
- 8. The process according to claim 4, wherein R.sub.2 is a methyl group.
- 9. The process according to claim 8, wherein R.sub.4 stands for an ethyl group.
