Claims
- 1. A base assembly for a bird cage comprising,
a base and a removable tray slidable on and off the base, said base having an upwardly extending side wall and said tray having an upwardly extending side wall, said side walls together encircling the tray and base when the tray is fully disposed on the base, and a guard attached to the base and registering with the side walls of the tray and base, said tray being removable from the base assembly without moving the guard or base.
- 2. The base assembly for a bird cage as described in claim 1 wherein the guard is a baffle for deflecting bird waste into the tray.
- 3. The base assembly for a bird cage as described in claim 1 wherein a grill is disposed on the tray and moves with the tray in and out of the base.
- 4. The base assembly for a bird cage as described in claim 3 wherein means are provided on the tray and base causing the tray to drop closer to the bottom wall of the base when the tray is partially withdrawn from the base enabling the grill to be removed from the tray without fully removing the tray from the base.
- 5. The base assembly for a bird cage as described in claim 1 wherein the guard and side walls of the base and tray together form an inwardly concave shape for retaining falling bird waste in the base assembly.
- 6. A base assembly for a bird cage comprising,
a base having a bottom wall and peripheral side wall, said side wall being interrupted along one side of the bottom wall, a tray mounted on the base and having a peripheral side wall extending about the tray, said tray being slidable on and off the base through the interruption in the base side wall, and a guard attached to the base above the bottom wall and extending about substantially the entire periphery thereof and registering with the side wall of the base and with the side wall of the tray along the side of the base free of a side wall when the tray is fully inserted on the base.
- 7. The base assembly for a bird cage as described in claim 1 wherein ramp means are associated with the base and tray elevating the tray on the base when the tray is fully inserted onto the tray.
- 8. The base assembly of claim 7 wherein a connector is associated with the base and tray for releasably retaining the tray in the fully inserted position on the base.
- 9. The base assembly of claim 7 wherein the ramp means lower the tray on the base when the tray is withdrawn a few inches from the fully inserted position on the base.
- 10. A base assembly for a cage comprising,
a base having a bottom wall and upwardly extending side walls about the back and sides thereof, a guard having a peripheral wall forming a continuation of the side and back walls of the base and extending across the front of the base bottom wall, the portion of the peripheral wall extending across the front of the base bottom wall being spaced above the bottom wall and defining an access to the base, and a tray slidable onto the base through the access and having a front wall that forms a continuation of the guard peripheral wall across the front of the base when the tray is fully inserted onto the base.
- 11. The base assembly of claim 10 wherein a wire grill is disposed on the tray and removable from the assembly when the tray is partially withdrawn from the base.
- 12. The base assembly of claim 10 wherein the grill is retained on the tray by the guard when the tray is fully inserted onto the base.
- 13. The base assembly of claim 12 wherein ramp means are provided in the subassembly of the tray and base for elevating the tray on the base when the tray is fully inserted onto the base, said ramp means dropping the tray to a lower position on the base when the tray is partially withdrawn through the access to lower the grill with respect to the guard enabling the grill to be removed from the tray beneath the portion of the peripheral wall of the guard that extends across the front of the base.
- 14. A bird cage comprising
a base assembly including a base, a removable tray for collection of bird waste and a surrounding guard for preventing waste from being ejected out of the cage, a plurality of towers disposed at spaced locations on the base assembly about its periphery, a cover disposed above the towers, and side, front, and back grills disposed between the towers, cover and base assembly for enabling a bird in the cage to be viewed and for allowing circulation of air through the cage.
- 15. A bird cage as defined in claim 14 wherein the towers are made of a light pervious plastic for enabling a bird in the cage to be viewed from outside the cage through the towers.
- 16. A bird cage as defined in claim 14 wherein the tray in the base assembly is larger in horizontal plan view than the horizontal plan of the living area for a bird in the cage for collecting the waste of a bird in the cage.
- 17. A bird cage as defined in claim 14 wherein at least one of the grills is pivotally mounted to swing both in and out of the cage for providing access to and from the cage and to provide a landing platform in the cage.
- 18. An animal cage comprising
a base, spaced apart towers extending upwardly from the periphery of the base, said towers being made of a light pervious material for enabling an animal in the cage to be viewed through the towers, a cover for enclosing the top of the cage, and grills mounted between the towers for enclosing the periphery of the cage.
- 19. An animal cage comprising
a base and a cover, light pervious towers spaced about the periphery of the base between the base and cover, and grills extending between the base and towers to enclose the periphery of the cage.
- 20. A column for use as a support for the cover and grills of an animal cage, said column being made of a light pervious material enabling an animal in the cage to be viewed through the column.
