Claims
- 1. A record material comprising a substrate having coated thereon an electron accepting developer material and a chromogenic mark forming bis-(indolyl)ethylene of the formula, ##STR37## wherein each L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 is the same or different and is each independently selected from indole moieties of the formulae ##STR38## wherein in each of (J2) through (J4) each R.sup.13, R.sup.14, R.sup.21, R.sup.22, R.sup.29 and R.sup.30 need not be the same and is each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8), cycloalkyl, aroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, and aryl,
- wherein each R.sup.7, R.sup.8, R.sup.9, R.sup.10, R.sup.11, R.sup.12, R.sup.15, R.sup.16, R.sup.17, R.sup.18, R.sup.19, R.sup.20, R.sup.23, R.sup.24, R.sup.25, R.sup.26, R.sup.27 and R.sup.28 need not be the same and is each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8), cycloalkyl, aryl, halogen, alkoxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8), aroxy, cycloalkoxy, dialkylamino including symmetrical and unsymmetrical alkyl groups with one to eight carbons, alkylcycloalkylamino, dicycloalkylamino, ##STR39## wherein Z is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8), aryl, aralkyl, aroxyalkyl and halogen.
- 2. The record material according to claim 1 wherein the chromogenic bis-(indolyl)ethylene comprises: ##STR40##
- 3. The record material according to claim 1 wherein the record material is pressure sensitive.
- 4. The record material according to claim 1 wherein the record material is heat sensitive.
- 5. A record material comprising a substrate having coated thereon an electron-accepting developer material and a chromogenic mark forming bis-(indolyl)ethylene comprising 1-(1-ethyl-2-methyl-indole-3-yl)-1-(1-ethyl-2-methyl-6,7-benzoindole-3-yl)ethylene.
