Claims
- 1. A process for producing a thermoset polymer product which comprises polymerizing a monomer corresponding to the formula: ##STR7## where R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl substituent, R.sup.1 is a divalent C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene radical, and X is --NO.sub.2, --CN or --CF.sub.3.
- 2. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the polymerization reaction is promoted by heating.
- 3. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the polymerization reaction is promoted with irradiation.
- 4. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the polymerization reaction is promoted with a catalyst.
- 5. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is in the form of a film.
- 6. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is in the form of a coating on a substrate.
- 7. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is in the form of a molded structure.
- 8. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is optically transparent.
- 9. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is optically transparent and exhibits second order nonlinear optical susceptibility .chi..sup.(2).
- 10. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the thermoset polymer product is optically transparent and exhibits third order nonlinear optical susceptibility .chi..sup.(3).
- 11. A thermoset polymer produced in accordance with the process of claim 1.
