Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR72## wherein R is 2,7-fluoroenylene, ##STR73## wherein Z is a direct bond, straight or branched C.sub.1-6 alkylene, --CO--, --NHCSNH--, --S--, --O--, --CH.dbd.CH--, --S--S--, --SO.sub.2 --, --NH--, --NH--CO--, --NCH.sub.3 --CO--, ##STR74## --XO.sub.2 NH--, ##STR75## --NR.sub.8 --CO--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CO--NR.sub.8 --, --NR.sub.8 --CO--CH.dbd.CH--CO--NR.sub.8 --, --NR.sub.8 --CO--NR.sub.8 --, --CO--NH--NH--CO--, --CH.sub.2 --CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.dbd.CH--, ##STR76## --O--CO--O--, --CO--O--, --CO--CO--, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --O--, ##STR77## wherein each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- x is halo, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy,
- y is halo, --NHCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH or --N(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH).sub.2, and
- n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, with the proviso that Z is meta or para to each --N.dbd.N-- linkage,
- Zo is a direct bond, --N.dbd.N--, --CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --,
- R.sub.5 is hydrogen, halo, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy,
- R.sub.6 is halo, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, and
- R.sub.7 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy,
- each R.sub.1 is independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl the hydroxy group of which is in other than the 1-position or --NR.sub.3 R.sub.4, wherein each of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is independently n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- each R.sub.2 is independently hydrogen, n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl, n-C.sub.1-4 -hydroxyalkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, and
- each A.sup..crclbar. is an anion,
- wherein each halo is independently fluoro, chloro or bromo.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein each A.sup..crclbar. is a non-chromophoric anion.
- 3. A compound according to claim 1 wherein
- the two R.sub.1 's are identical, and
- the two R.sub.2 's are identical and are in the identical positions of the pyridinium rings.
- 4. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R is 2,7-fluorenylene.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R is ##STR78##
- 6. A compound according to claim 5 wherein
- Z is a direct bond, straight or branched C.sub.1-6 -alkylene, --CO--, --NHCSNH--, --S--, --O--, --CH.dbd.CH--, --S--S--, --SO.sub.2 --, --NH--, --NH--CO--, --NCH.sub.3 --CO--, ##STR79## --SO.sub.2 NH--, ##STR80## --NR.sub.8 --CO--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CO--NR.sub.8 --, --NR.sub.8 --CO--CH.dbd.CH--CO--NR.sub.8 --, --NR.sub.8 --CO--NR.sub.8 --, --CO--NH--NH--CO--, --CH.sub.2 --CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.dbd.CH--, --O--CO--O--, --CO--O--, --CO--CO-- or --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --O--.
- 7. A compound according to claim 6 having the formula ##STR81## wherein each A.sup..crclbar. is an anion.
- 8. The compound according to claim 7 wherein each A.sup..crclbar. is chloride.
- 9. A compound according to claim 5 wherein Z is ##STR82##
- 10. A compound according to claim 5 wherein Z is ##STR83##
- 11. A compound according to claim 5 wherein Z is ##STR84##
- 12. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R is ##STR85##
- 13. A compound according to claim 12 wherein Zo is a direct bond, --CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --.
- 14. A compound according to claim 12 wherein Zo is --N.dbd.N--.
- 15. A compound according to claim 1 having the formula ##STR86## wherein R" is ##STR87## wherein Z' is --S--, --O--, --CH.dbd.CH--, --NH--, --NH--CO--, ##STR88## --SO.sub.2 NH--, ##STR89## --CO--NH--NH--CO--, --CH.sub.2 --CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--CO--NH--NH--CO--CH.dbd.CH--, ##STR90## --O--CO--O--, --CO--O--, --CO--CO--, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --NH--CO--NH--, ##STR91## ##STR92## --NH--CO--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --CO--NH--, --NH--CO--(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --CO--NH--, --NH--CO--CH.dbd.CH--CO--NH--, --NCH.sub.3 --CO--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --CO--NCH.sub.3 --, --NCH.sub.3 --CO--CH.dbd.CH--CO--NCH.sub.3 --, --NCH.sub.3 --CO--NCH.sub.3 --, --O--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --O--, ##STR93## wherein x' is hydrogen, chloro, methyl or methoxy, and

- Zx' is --NH--CO--, ##STR94## --NH--CO--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --CO--NH-- or --NHCO--CH.dbd.CH--CO--NH--, Zo' is a direct bond, --CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- and
- each R.sub.5 ' is chloro, methyl or methoxy, with the proviso that the two R.sub.5 ''s are identical,
- each R.sub.1 ' is independently hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxypropyl, 2-hydroxy-1-methylethyl or dimethylamino,
- each R.sub.2 ' is independently hydrogen, methyl, methoxy or 2-hydroxyethyl, and
- each A.sup..crclbar. is an anion.
- 16. A compound according to claim 15 wherein
- the two R.sub.1 ''s are identical, and
- the two R.sub.2 ''s are identical and are in the identical positions of the pyridinium rings.
- 17. A compound according to claim 15 wherein
- each R.sub.1 ' is independently hydrogen or methyl, and
- each R.sub.2 ' is independently hydrogen or methyl.
- 18. A compound according to claim 15 wherein

- 45. A compound of the formula ##STR128## wherein R.sub.q is straight chain C.sub.2-4 alkylene,
- each R.sub.1q is independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl the hydroxy group of which is in other than the 1-position or --NR.sub.4q R.sub.5q, wherein each of R.sub.4q and R.sub.5q is independently n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl,
- each R.sub.2q is independently hydrogen, n-C.sub.1-4 alkyl, n-C.sub.1-4 -hydroxyalkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy,
- each R.sub.3q is independently hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, and
- each A.sup..crclbar. is a non-chromophoric anion.
- 46. A compound according to claim 45 wherein R.sub.q is 1,2-ethylene.

- 56. A process for dyeing or printing a textile substrate dyeable with basic dyes comprising applying to a textile substrate dyeable with basic dyes, as a dyeing or printing agent, a compound according to claim 45.
