Claims
- 1. A naphtha reforming catalyst comprising:
a) a support comprising γ-alumina particles throughout which a catalytically effective amount of bismuth has been essentially homogeneously distributed; and, b) catalytically effective amounts of phosphorus, platinum and chlorine distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 2. A naphtha reforming catalyst comprising:
a) a support comprising γ-alumina particles throughout which a catalytically effective amount of phosphorus has been essentially homogeneously distributed; and, b) catalytically effective amounts of bismuth, platinum and chlorine distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 3. A naphtha reforming catalyst comprising a support comprising γ-alumina particles and catalytically effective amounts of bismuth, phosphorus, platinum and chlorine distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 4. The catalyst of claim 1 further comprising a catalytically effective amount of rhenium distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 5. The catalyst of claim 2 further comprising a catalytically effective amount of rhenium distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 6. The catalyst of claim 3 further comprising a catalytically effective amount of rhenium distributed essentially entirely on the surface of said support.
- 7. The catalyst of claims 1 or 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 8. The catalyst of claims 2, 3, 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 9. The catalyst of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 wherein the amount of phosphorus is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 10. The catalyst of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 wherein the amount of phosphorus is between 0.1 wt. % and 0.4 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 11. The catalyst of claims 1 or 4 wherein the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 12. The catalyst of claims 1 or 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.1 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.05 wt. % and 2 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 13. The catalyst of claims 1 or 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.1 wt. % and 0.4 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.15 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.8 wt. % and 1.2 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 14. The catalyst of claims 1 or 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 15. The catalyst of claim 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.1 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.05 wt. % and 2 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.01 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 16. The catalyst of claim 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.1 wt. % and 0.5 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 17. The catalyst of claim 4 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.45 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 18. The catalyst of claims 2, 3, 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.1 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.05 wt. % and 2 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 19. The catalyst of claims 2, 3, 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.1 wt. % and 0.4 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.15 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.8 wt. % and 1.2 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 20. The catalyst of claims 2, 3, 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst and the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 21. The catalyst of claims 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.6 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.1 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.05 wt. % and 2 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.01 wt. % and 1 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 22. The catalyst of claims 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.03 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.1 wt. % and 0.5 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 23. The catalyst of claims 5 or 6 wherein the amount of bismuth is between 0.05 wt. % and 0.1 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of phosphorus is between 0.25 wt. % and 0.35 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of platinum is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.3 wt. % of the catalyst, the amount of chlorine is between 0.9 wt. % and 1.1 wt. % of the catalyst, and the amount of rhenium is between 0.2 wt. % and 0.45 wt. % of the catalyst.
- 24. A process for making the catalyst of claim 1 comprising:
a) preparing a solution comprising a bismuth precursor; b) preparing a mixture of γ-alumina powder and alumina sol; c) blending the mixture of step (b) with the solution prepared in step (a), thereby making a support precursor having bismuth distributed essentially homogeneously throughout; d) forming the support precursor into particles; e) drying and optionally calcining the particles; f) impregnating the particles of step (e) with at least one solution comprising precursors of phosphorus, platinum and chlorine.
- 25. A process for making the catalyst of claim 2 comprising:
a) preparing a solution comprising a phosphorus precursor; b) preparing a mixture of γ-alumina powder and alumina sol; c) blending the mixture of step (b) with the solution prepared in step (a), thereby making a support precursor having phosphorus distributed essentially homogeneously throughout; d) forming the support precursor into particles; e) drying and optionally calcining the particles; f) impregnating the particles of step (e) with at least one solution comprising precursors of bismuth, platinum and chlorine.
- 26. A process for making the catalyst of claim 3 comprising impregnating support particles comprising γ-alumina with at least one solution comprising precursors of bismuth, phosphorus, platinum and chlorine.
- 27. The process of claims 24, 25 or 26 wherein the bismuth precursor is selected from the group consisting of Bi(NO3)3.5H2O, BiCl3, BiOCl, BiBr3, Bi acetate, Bi citrate, and Bi alcoxides and the phosphorus precursor is selected from the group consisting of H3PO4, H3PO3, H3PO2, NH4H2PO4 and (NH4)2HPO4.
- 28. The process of claims 24, 25 or 26 wherein the bismuth precursor is selected from the group consisting of Bi(NO3)3.5H2O and Bi citrate and the phosphorus precursor is H3PO4.
- 29. A process for reforming hydrotreated naphtha comprising contacting said naphtha with the catalyst of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure.
