Claims
- 1. A method of decorating a section of glass comprising coating said glass with a lead-free composition, such lead-free composition comprising a glass frit including from about 35% to about 77% by weight of bismuth oxide, form about 10% to about 33% by weight of boron oxide, and from abut 10% to about 32% by weight of zinc oxide, and firing the led-free composition at a temperature sufficient to fuse and cure the lead-free composition.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said glass frit further comprises from about 0.5% to about 9% by weight of silicon oxide and from about 1% to about 15% by weight of zirconium oxide.
- 3. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit includes from about 0.5% to 9% by weight silicon oxide, from about 1% to about 15% by weight zirconium oxide, up to about 4% by weight aluminum oxide, up to 15% by weight cerium oxide and up to 7% by weight strontium oxide.
- 4. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit comprises up to about 15% by weight barium oxide.
- 5. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said glass frit comprises up to about 15% by weight of antimony oxide.
- 6. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such section of glass comprises a glass spandrel, an automotive window or a piece of appliance glass.
- 7. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the lead-free composition is fired at a temperature of from about 925.degree. F. to about 1300.degree. F.
- 8. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the lead-free composition is fired at a temperature of from about 950.degree. F. to about 1250.degree. F.
- 9. A method as set froth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit comprises in weight percent from about 39% to about 74% Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 12% to about 31% B.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 15% to about 30% ZnO, up to about 10% ZrO and up to about 5% SiO.sub.2.
- 10. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit comprises in weight percent from about 45% to about 60% Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 14% to about 20% B.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 17% to about 25% ZnO and up to about 9% SiO.sub.2.
- 11. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit comprises up to about 9% by weight V.sub.2 O.sub.5.
- 12. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such glass frit comprises up to about 7% by weight P.sub.2 O.sub.5.
- 13. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein such lead-free composition includes a vehicle and a pigment.
- 14. A method as set forth in claim 13 wherein such lead-free composition comprises in weight percent from about 3% to about 40% such vehicle, up to about 40% such pigment, and from about 30% to about 90% by weight such glass frit.
- 15. A method of decorating a section of glass comprising:
- I. providing a section of glass;
- II. providing a lead-free composition, such lead-free composition comprising a glass frit, such frit comprising in weight percent from about 35% to about 77% Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 10% to about 33% B.sub.2 O.sub.3 and from about 10% to about 32% ZnO;
- III. applying such lead-free composition to such section of glass; and
- IV. firing such coated section of glass.
