Claims
- 1. In a blackening treating furnace, to be positioned upstream of a continuous annealing furnace, for blackening treatment of a surface of a stainless steel strip moved through said blackening treating furnace, after which the treated stainless steel strip is passed to the continuous annealing furnace, the improvement wherein said blackening treating furnace comprises:
- a soot generation burner for incompletely combusting a fuel to thereby generate an incomplete combustion flame including soot and directing said incomplete combustion flame toward the surface within said treating furnace, such that the soot deposits on and blackens the surface;
- a pair of secondary air nozzles, separate from said soot generation burner and located at positions to enclose said incomplete combustion flame, for injecting secondary combustion air toward the surface, and thereby for combusting further fuel from said incomplete combustion flame to form a combustion reaction flame;
- a flame guide air nozzle, separate from said soot generation burner and said secondary air nozzles and located downstream thereof relative to the direction of movement of the stainless steel strip through said treating furnace, for injecting flame guide air toward the surface in a direction perpendicular to the direction of movement of the strip through said treating furnace or in a direction inclined downstream to the direction of movement; and
- an exhaust duct, located at a position downstream of said flame guide air nozzle such that said combustion reaction flame is drawn toward said exhaust duct, for discharging gas from said treating furnace.
- 2. The improvement claimed in claim 1, further comprising a second soot generation burner, a second pair of secondary air nozzles, and a second flame guide air nozzle located at positions within said treating furnace, such that both opposite sides of said strip are treated.
- 3. The improvement claimed in claim 1, wherein a body of said treating furnace is enclosed by a water-cooled box.
- 4. The improvement claimed in claim 1, wherein said pair of secondary air nozzles inject said secondary combustion air into said treating furnace at a temperature of no more than 20.degree. C. and thereby retard an increase of internal temperature within said treating furnace resulting from said combusting.
- 5. The improvement claimed in claim 1, wherein said flame guide air nozzle injects said flame guide air into said treating furnace at a temperature of no more than 20.degree. C. and thereby retards an increase of internal temperature within said treating furnace resulting from said combusting.
- 6. The improvement claimed in claim 1 wherein said pair of secondary air nozzles and said flame guide air nozzle inject said secondary combustion air and said flame guide air into said treating furnace at a temperature of no more than 20.degree. C. and thereby retard an increase of internal temperature within said treating furnace resulting from said combusting.
- 7. The improvement claimed in claim 1, further comprising means for water cooling said treating furnace and thereby retarding an increase of internal temperature therein resulting from said combusting.
- 8. The improvement claimed in claim 1, comprising means for supplying said soot generation burner with hydrocarbon gas as said fuel and a quantity of oxygen equal to no more than 0.3 times the quantity of oxygen required for complete combustion of said hydrocarbon gas.
- 9. The improvement claimed in claim 1, wherein said secondary air nozzles are oriented to inject said secondary combustion air in directions perpendicular to the direction of movement or inclined toward said incomplete combustion flame.
