Claims
- 1. A method for retaining a bladder control device within a female patient's urethra, comprising the steps of:
- providing a bladder control device, the bladder control device including an elongate body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an axis extending therebetween, elongate retaining members extending from the proximal end of the body, each member having a first and a second end, the first end being connected to the proximal end of the body, the members being moveable between a first position generally aligned with the axis and a second position at an acute angle to the axis;
- advancing the bladder control device proximally into a patient's urethra to the patient's bladder;
- moving the retaining members from the first position to the second position within the patient's bladder such that the second ends spread apart from each other; and
- providing a distal retainer at the distal end of the bladder control device disposed externally of the urethra.
- 2. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising the step of restraining the elongate retaining members in the first position while advancing the bladder control device into the urethra.
- 3. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising the step of attaching the distal retainer to the bladder control device after advancing the bladder control device into the urethra.
