Claims
- 1. A method of sizing a window covering, comprising:
providing a support surface; providing a cutter adjacent the support surface, and moveable along a path, the path of the cutter defining a cutting plane; providing a vacuum; providing a window covering with first and second ends; placing the window covering on the support surface, the first end traversing the cutting plane; cutting off a portion of the first end of the window covering with the cutter, thereby creating a waste product; and collecting the waste product with the vacuum.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of placing the window covering on the support surface, the second end traversing the cutting plane,
cutting off a portion of the second end of the window covering with the cutter, thereby creating a waste product; and collecting the waste product with the vacuum.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:
providing a collection bag; and receiving the waste product in the collection bag.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of the first end of the window covering is cut by a saw.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of the first end of the window covering is cut by a first moveable die and a second stationary die.
- 6. The method of claim 3, further comprising:
the window covering comprising a bottom rail, a head rail, a window covering and a connector centrally located between the first end and second end of the bottom rail; the support surface further including a moveable locator for engaging the connector; and after placing the window on the support surface, engaging the connector with the locator, and positioning the window covering adjacent the cutter at a predetermined distance.
- 7. An apparatus to size a window covering, comprising:
a support surface having first and second ends, adapted to support a window covering with first and second ends; a cutter located at an end of the support surface, and adapted to cut an end of the window covering, thereby creating refuse; and a vacuum located adjacent the cutter adapted to collect the refuse.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, the cutter further comprising a circular saw.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, the cutter further comprising a guide thereby defining a cutting path traveled by the circular saw.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 7, the refuse including both the cut ends of the window covering and airborne particulate.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 7, the cutter comprising a first movable die and a second stationary die.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, the first movable die and second stationary die further comprising receiving holes sized to receive the ends of the window covering, whereby an end of the window covering is inserted into the receiving holes and sheared by relative motion between the first and second dies.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the cutter includes a top portion, the cutter being movable from a first operating position to size a window covering to a second retracted position in which the top portion is substantially flush with or lower than the support surface.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising a collection bag attached to the vacuum, and adapted to receive the refuse gathered by the vacuum.
- 15. A vacuuming system for a window covering sizing apparatus, comprising:
means for supporting a window covering, the window covering having a first end, a second end, and a middle; means for cutting an end of the window covering, thereby creating refuse; a vacuum located adjacent the cutting means and adapted to collect the refuse.
- 16. The vacuuming system of claim 15, further comprising means for locating the ends of the window covering a predetermined distance from the cutting means.
- 17. The vacuuming system of claim 15, further comprising means for determining the distance from the center of the window covering to the cutting means.
- 18. The vacuuming system of claim 15, further comprising means for storing the refuse.
