Claims
- 1. A blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:
- 2. The blocked mercaptosilane of claim 1 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isobutyl, phenyl, tolyl, phenethyl, norbomyl, norbomenyl, ethylnorbornyl, ethylnorbornenyl, ethylcyclohexyl, ethylcyclohexenyl, and cyclohexylcyclohexyl.
- 3. The blocked mercaptosilane of claim 2 wherein R is methyl or ethyl.
- 4. The blocked mercaptosilane of claim 1 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 5. The blocked mercaptosilane of claim 2 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 6. The blocked mercaptosilane of claim 3 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 7. A blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:
- 8. A composition comprising a filler in combination with a blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:
- 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isobutyl, phenyl, tolyl, phenethyl, norbornyl, norbornenyl, ethylnorbomyl, ethylnorbornenyl, ethylcyclohexyl, ethylcyclohexenyl, and cyclohexylcyclohexyl.
- 10. The composition of claim 9 wherein R is methyl or ethyl.
- 11. The composition of claim 8 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 12. The composition of claim 9 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 13. The composition of claim 10 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 14. The composition of claim 8 wherein the blocked mercaptosilane is of the structure:
- 15. The composition of claim 8 wherein the filler is silica.
- 16. A composition comprising an organic polymer in combination with a blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:
- 17. The composition of claim 16 wherein the organic polymer is selected from the group consisting of solution styrene-butadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, natural rubber, X, polybutadiene, ethylene-propylene co- and ter- polymers, and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber.
- 18. A rubber composition comprising:
a) a blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:G—C(═O)—S—CH2CH2CH2SiX3wherein each X is an independently selected RO— group wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl that may or may not contain unsaturation, alkenyl groups, aryl groups, and aralkyl groups, such moieties other than hydrogen having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and G is a monovalent alkyl of from 2 to 12 carbon atoms; b) an organic polymer; and c) a filler.
- 19. The rubber composition of claim 18 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isobutyl, phenyl, tolyl, phenethyl, norbomyl, norbomenyl, ethylnorbornyl, ethylnorbornenyl, ethylcyclohexyl, ethylcyclohexenyl, and cyclohexylcyclohexyl.
- 20. The rubber composition of claim 19 wherein R is methyl or ethyl.
- 21. The rubber composition of claim 18 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 22. The rubber composition of claim 19 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 23. The rubber composition of claim 20 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 24. The rubber composition of claim 18 wherein the blocked mercaptosilane is of the structure:
- 25. An article of manufacture comprising a rubber composition comprising:
a) a blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:G—C(═O)—S—CH2CH2CH2SiX3wherein each X is an independently selected RO— group wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl that may or may not contain unsaturation, alkenyl groups, aryl groups, and aralkyl groups, such moieties other than hydrogen having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and G is a monovalent alkyl of from 2 to 12 carbon atoms; b) an organic polymer; and c) a filler.
- 26. The article of claim 25 wherein said article is a tire.
- 27. The tire of claim 26 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isobutyl, phenyl, tolyl, phenethyl, norbornyl, norbornenyl, ethylnorbornyl, ethylnorbornenyl, ethylcyclohexyl, ethylcyclohexenyl, and cyclohexylcyclohexyl.
- 28. The tire of claim 27 wherein R is methyl or ethyl.
- 29. The tire of claim 26 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 30. The tire of claim 27 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 31. The tire of claim 28 wherein G is a monovalent alkyl of from 6 to 8 carbon atoms.
- 32. The tire of claim 26 wherein the blocked mercaptosilane is of the structure:
- 33. A composition consisting essentially of a carrier and a blocked mercaptosilane of the structure:
- 34. The composition of claim 33 wherein the carrier is a filler.
- 35. The composition of claim 34 wherein the filler is selected from the group consisting of silica and carbon black.
- 36. The composition of claim 34 which is the reaction product of the filler and the blocked mercaptosilane.
- 37. The composition of claim 36 wherein the filler and blocked mercaptosilane are reacted through the SiX3 group of the blocked mercaptosilane.
- 38. The composition of claim 33 wherein the carrier is a porous polymer.
