Claims
- 1. A cup dispenser comprising:
a first molded plastic member defining a cup storage region for receiving a stacked plurality of associated cups and an open end in communication with the cup storage region; a molded plastic pushing member located in the cup storage region, said pushing member defining a pushing surface for engaging an open mouth of an innermost associated cup of the stacked plurality of associated cups; a diaphragm member connected to said first member and located adjacent said open end for restricting said open end to retain said pushing member in said cup storage region, said diaphragm defining an opening through which a closed end of an outermost associated cup of the stacked plurality of associated cups projects, wherein upon exertion of manual force on said outermost associated cup in a direction away from said pushing member, said diaphragm deforms and allows selective passage of the associated outermost cup through said opening.
- 2. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:
a spring located operably between the first member and the pushing member and biasing said pushing member and the stacked plurality of associated cups toward said open end of said first member.
- 3. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein said diaphragm is defined by a one-piece elastomeric member and wherein a peripheral portion said diaphragm is frictionally engaged with a peripheral edge of the first member that defines said open end.
- 4. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 3, further comprising:
a clamp member frictionally connected to said first member with said peripheral portion of said diaphragm frictionally secured between said clamp member and said peripheral edge of the first member.
- 5. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 4, wherein said first member comprises a tubular member, said open end is circular and said clamp member is an annular member that circumscribes said open end.
- 6. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:
a collar releasably connected to said first member adjacent said open end, said collar comprising a flange adapted for fixed securement to an associated mounting structure.
- 7. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 6, wherein said first member comprises a plurality of spaced-apart lugs projecting outwardly therefrom adjacent said open end, and wherein said collar defines a plurality of regions located and dimensioned to receive and releasably retain said plurality of lugs, respectively, to effect fixed securement of said collar to said first member.
- 8. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first member defines at least one vent opening therethrough that communicates ambient air to said cup storage region.
- 9. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first member comprises a tubular member and said open end is circular.
- 10. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein said pushing surface of said pushing member is one of conical and frusto-conical and converges in a direction toward said open end of said first member.
- 11. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 10, wherein said pushing surface is frusto-conical and said pushing member defines a transverse planar surface that projects into said opening defined in said diaphragm, and wherein said cup dispenser comprises an adhesive label including indicia secured to a transverse planar surface of said pushing member.
- 12. The cup dispenser as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a nipple projecting from said pushing member, said nipple adapted for insertion into the open mouth of the innermost associated cup engaged by said pushing surface.
- 13. A method of manufacturing a cup dispenser comprising:
forming a one-piece construction including a cup storage housing and a cup pushing member, said cup storage housing defining a cup storage space; separating said cup pushing member from said cup storage housing; inserting said cup pushing member into said cup storage space; and, fixedly securing a diaphragm to said cup storage housing adjacent an open end of said housing.
- 14. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 13, further comprising, before said step of inserting said cup pushing member into said cup storage space:
inserting a biasing member into said cup storage space so that a first end of said biasing member contacts an inner end of said cup storage housing opposite said open end, and wherein said step of inserting said cup pushing member into said cup storage space comprises abutting said cup pushing member with a second end of said biasing member that is opposite said first end of said biasing member.
- 15. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said step of forming a one-piece construction comprises defining at least one vent hole in said cup storage housing that communicates ambient air into said cup storage space.
- 16. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said step of fixedly securing a diaphragm to said cup storage housing comprises:
frictionally securing a peripheral portion of said diaphragm to said open end of said cup storage housing; and, frictionally securing a collar to said open end of said cup storage housing after said peripheral portion of said diaphragm is secured to said open end, wherein said peripheral portion of said diaphragm is frictionally secured between said open end of said cup storage housing and said collar.
- 17. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said step of forming a one-piece construction comprises forming said one-piece construction from plastic.
- 18. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 17, wherein said step of forming a one-piece construction comprises a blow-molding process.
- 19. The method of manufacturing a cup dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said step of forming a one-piece construction comprises forming at least one score line in said one-piece construction at a location intermediate said cup storage housing and said cup pushing member, said at least one score line indicative of a location at which said cup pushing member is to be separated from said cup storage housing according to said separation step.
- 20. A cup dispenser manufactured in accordance with the process as set forth in claim 13.
