Claims
- 1. A blower comprising:a housing having a forward portion and a rear portion, said forward portion having an airflow discharge port; an electric motor disposed within said housing, said electric motor having its longitudinal axis disposed generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of said airflow discharge port; a fan driven by an output shaft of said motor and disposed within said housing near said rear portion of said housing generally orthogonal to said longitudinal axis of said airflow discharge port; and a volute airflow channel formed in said housing adjacent said motor near said rear portion of said housing for directing airflow generated by said fan through said airflow discharge port.
- 2. The blower of claim 1, wherein said volute further comprises a substantially 90 degree bend for directing said airflow toward said airflow discharge port.
- 3. The blower of claim 1, wherein:said volute airflow channel includes a wall; and said wall forms a leg receiving area to receive a portion of a leg of a user when said blower is held by said user at said user's side.
- 4. A blower comprising:a housing having a forward portion and a rear portion, said forward portion having an airflow discharge port; a motor disposed within said housing, said electric motor having an output shaft also disposed within said housing; a fan driven by said output shaft of said motor and disposed within said housing at said rear portion of said housing generally orthogonal to said output shaft; an airflow channel formed in said housing adjacent said motor at said rear portion of said housing for directing airflow generated by said fan to said airflow discharge port; said airflow channel substantially impeding line-of-sight communication to a peripheral edge of said fan.
- 5. The blower of claim 4, wherein said housing further comprises a handle graspable by a user, generally parallel to said airflow discharge port.
- 6. The blower of claim 4, wherein said airflow channel is defined by a wall forming a volute extending around said rear portion of said housing, wherein said volute is in fluid communication with said airflow discharge port.
- 7. A blower including a housing having a forward portion and a rear portion; the blower comprising:an airflow discharge port for expelling air in a selected direction; a fan disposed within the housing generally orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of said airflow discharge port; a channel defining a volute airflow path formed in the housing at the rear portion for directing airflow generated by said fan to said airflow discharge port; and said channel being defined by the housing so as to form a bulge protruding from the housing to substantially eliminate interference with hip and leg areas of a user when said blower is carried by a user and rests along one side of the user's body.
- 8. The blower of claim 7, wherein said volute includes a substantially 90 degree bend communicating with said airflow discharge port and a peripheral area of said fan.
- 9. The blower of claim 7, wherein said housing further includes a user interface such that a user may interface with said user interface in a manner to increase efficient use of the blower.
- 10. The blower of claim 7, wherein said channel forms a hip rest in the housing, wherein said hip rest is positioned behind a hip of a user when said blower is suspended via a shoulder strap along side a hip of said user.
- 11. A blower having a housing with a forward portion including a discharge port and a rear portion for forming an air pressure differential, the blower comprising:an elongated airflow channel defining at least a portion of the discharge port, said elongated airflow channel extending along a first axis; a handle member extending from the housing; a motor disposed within the housing substantially directly below the handle member to assist in balance of the blower during use; and a fan operably interconnected to said motor to form the air pressure differential when driven by said motor; said fan having an axis of rotation extending substantially parallel to said first axis, such that noise production of the fan is reduced.
- 12. The blower of claim 11, further comprising:a wall extending from the rear portion of the housing; and said wall defining a volute airflow channel in airflow communication with said elongate airflow channel; wherein said fan is disposed in said volute airflow channel to form the air pressure differential such that a pressurized airflow may flow between said volute airflow channel and the discharge port.
- 13. The blower of claim 12, wherein said wall defines a user interface portion, wherein said user interface portion allows a portion of a hip of a user to be received by said user interface portion to enable said blower to be supported comfortably adjacent one side of the user.
- 14. The blower of claim 12, wherein said volute air flow channel includes substantially a 90° bend for directing airflow from said volute air flow channel to the discharge port during operation of the fan, wherein said 90° bend substantially blocks line-of-sight communication from the discharge port to a peripheral edge of said fan to substantially reduce noise generated by said fan during operation.
