Claims
- 1. A boat lift apparatus comprising:
- a frame-like housing formed by a plurality of vertical support beams fixedly attached to a plurality of horizontal support beams, wherein said vertical support beams are attached to the sides of a channel created between two bodies of water, said channel containing therein a dividing barrier to prevent intermingling of said bodies of water;
- a hoist means having a lift frame moveably attached to said housing, said lift frame having a first transverse end and a second transverse end opposite said first transverse end, said hoist means further comprising a pair of load distribution supports attached to said lift frame, wherein one of said supports is attached to said lift frame at a first lateral side of said lift frame and the other of said supports is attached at a second lateral side of said lift frame opposite of said first lateral side, said supports having a first support end and a second support end opposite said first end, said supports having means for attaching a cradle-like carrying means to said supports;
- a means for raising and lowering said load distribution supports;
- a means for moving said lift frame from a first end of said frame-like housing to a second end of said frame-like housing; and,
- a means for distributing electric power to said lift frame moving means and said load distribution support raising and lowering means.
- 2. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 1, further comprising a roof attached to said frame-like housing.
- 3. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 1, wherein said lift frame is further comprised of:
- a pair of lift frame end members;
- a pair of lift frame side members fixedly attached to said pair of lift frame end members;
- a pair of lift frame elongated members attached to said lift frame end members and within said lift frame side members;
- a plurality of lift frame partial members attached to and within said lift frame side members, said lift frame end members and said lift frame elongated members; and,
- a mounting base attached to said lift frame between said lift frame elongated members.
- 4. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 3, wherein said means for raising and lowering said load distribution supports is comprised of
- a vertical motion producing motor mounted to said mounting base of said lift frame;
- a drive gear reducer coupled to said vertical motion producing motor, said drive gear reducer having a first drive axle and a second drive axle, said first and second drive axles extending from within and out of each side of said drive gear reducer and rotating in opposite directions, and a pair of drive gear reducer sprockets attached to the end of each of said first and second drive axles;
- a pair of vertical motion producing drive shafts, one of which is attached to said lift frame near said first transverse end of said lift frame and the other of which is attached near said second transverse end of said lift frame, said vertical motion producing drive shafts having a first end, a midsection and a second end, each of said vertical motion producing drive shafts having a spindle attached at said first end and a spindle attached at said second end, and a vertical motion producing drive shaft sprocket attached at a point along the midsection of said vertical motion producing drive shaft in parallel alignment with one of said drive gear reducer sprockets of said drive gear reducer;
- a vertical motion producing drive chain coupled between each of said drive gear reducer sprockets attached to said drive axles and said vertical motion producing drive shaft sprockets attached to said vertical motion producing drive shafts,
- a pair of load distribution support pulleys attached to each of said load distribution supports;
- a pair of lift frame pulleys attached to each of said lift frame side numbers; and,
- a plurality of sections of wire rope, each section having a first end and a second end, said first end being attached to each of said spindles attached to each of said vertical motion producing drive shafts, said second end of said wire rope being run through said load distribution support pulley and said lift frame pulley and attached to said lift frame.
- 5. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 4, wherein said vertical motion producing drive shafts are comprised of multiple segments coupled together by a roller chain coupling at a point along the midsection of said vertical motion producing drive shafts.
- 6. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 3, wherein said means for moving said lift frame from a first end of said frame-like housing to a second end of said frame-like housing comprises:
- a horizontal motion producing motor having a drive shaft extending from said motor attached to said first transverse end of said lift frame;
- a horizontal motion producing motor sprocket coupled to said drive shaft of said horizontal motion producing motor;
- a first horizontal motion producing axle attached near said first transverse end of said lift frame, said first horizontal motion producing axle having a first outer end and a second outer end;
- a second horizontal motion producing axle attached at said second transverse end of said lift frame, said second horizontal motion producing axle having a first outer end and a second outer end;
- a horizontal motion producing axle sprocket coupled to said first horizontal motion producing axle, near said first end of said first axle, in parallel alignment with said horizontal motion producing motor sprocket;
- a horizontal motion producing drive chain coupled between said horizontal motion producing motor sprocket and said horizontal motion producing axle sprocket;
- a first flanged wheel attached at said first outer end of said first horizontal motion producing axle, in continuous contact with said plurality of horizontal support beams of said frame like housing;
- a second flanged wheel attached at said second outer end of said first horizontal motion producing axle, in continuous contact with said plurality of horizontal support beams;
- a third flanged wheel attached at said first outer end of said second horizontal motion producing axle; and,
- a fourth flanged wheel attached at said outer second end of said second horizontal motion producing axle.
- 7. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 6, further comprising:
- a flange bearing attached at each end of said vertical motion producing drive shafts on an outer side of said lift frame side members.
- 8. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 6, further comprising:
- a pillow block bearing attached near the center point and on the outboard side of each of said first, second, third and fourth flanged wheels.
- 9. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 6, wherein said first horizontal motion producing axle and said second horizontal motion producing axle comprise multiple segments, each segment being coupled to another segment by a coupling shaft.
- 10. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 3, wherein said lift frame further comprises a work platform attached within said pair of lift frame side members.
- 11. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 3, wherein said lift frame further comprises a jack plate attached to and extending from said mounting base.
- 12. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 1, wherein said plurality of vertical support beams, said plurality of horizontal support beams, said lift frame, and said load distribution supports are I-beams.
- 13. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 1, wherein said cradle-like carrying means is comprised of a pair of slings, one of said slings loosely traversing each of said first ends of said load distribution supports and the other of said slings loosely traversing each of said second ends of said load distribution support.
- 14. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 13, wherein said pair of slings is constructed from any one of a group of materials consisting of high strength polyester or nylon.
- 15. A boat lift apparatus as in claim 1, wherein said electric power distributing means comprises:
- a power distribution bus attached to and spanning the length of one of said horizontal support beams, said power distribution bus having a plurality of bus grooves;
- a power coupling having a plurality of coupling grooves slidably engaged with said power distribution bus;
- a power distribution interface attached to said lift frame;
- a first power conductor attached between said power distribution interface and said power coupling;
- a first power cable electrically connecting said power distribution interface to said horizontal motion producing motor attached to said first transverse end of said lift frame;
- a second power cable electrically connecting said power distribution interface to said vertical motion producing motor attached to said mounting base attached to said lift frame;
- a power distribution panel electrically connected by a third power cable to a control panel, said power distribution panel being in contact with an electrical utility supply, said control panel having a plurality of switches for controlling the movement of a boat as it is moved along the channel; and,
- a fourth power cable electrically connecting said control panel to said power distribution interface.
