This invention relates generally to purses and cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, and more particularly, to an arrangement that facilitates the efficient carrying of a Bible or book, without damaging the book, and maintaining the book safely yet easily removably attached to the purse or case.
Conventional cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, generally are limited to the attachment of the covers of the Bible to pockets in the case. There generally is no room for additional materials, such as a writing pad, writing instrument, and pockets for miscellaneous items. There is a need, therefore, for an arrangement for caring a Bible that physically protects the Bible, provides a plurality of accessory-carrying pockets, and permits the Bible to be removed from the case with minimal effort. In many instances, a decision to purchase a given Bible or book is made independently of a decision to purchase a book case. Accordingly, there is also a need to provide a book holder that can conveniently accommodate Bibles or books of various lengths and thicknesses.
To satisfy the above noted needs, a revelation of the present invention is brought forth. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a book holder for holding a book within a range of lengths and thicknesses. The book holder includes a first longitudinal frame member and a second longitudinal frame member adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the first frame member. A set including at least first and second spaced apart hooks are connected generally adjacent an extreme end of the frame members. At least one on the hooks on each frame member is generally being transversely positionally adjustable with respect to its connected frame member.
Other features of the invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art as the invention is further revealed in the accompanying drawings and Detailed Description of the Invention.
Generally adjacent an extreme end 14 of the female frame member 10 is a transverse beam 16. The transverse beam 16 has a transverse slot 20. Extending through the transverse slot 20 is a stub portion 22 of a hook 24. Juxtaposing the stud portion 22 of the hook 24 is an inner screw on flange 26 and an outer flange 28. The hook 24 has a first portion 30 that extends generally along an axis 38 generally parallel with the axis 12. The hook 24 has a second portion 32 spaced from the first portion 30 extending in a direction opposite the first portion 30. The second portion 32 can be generally parallel with the first portion 30. The second portion 32 of the hook can be coated with a polymeric material 34 such as plastic or other suitable alternative to prevent damage to any Bible or book that is connected with the book holder 7.
The female frame member 10 along an extreme end 14 has two transverse oriented windows 36. The hook first portion 30 extends out of the windows 36. The hook stud portion 22 has a loose fit within the slot 20 to allow the hook 24 to adjustably transversely translate with respect to the female frame member 10 (and in respect to the hook 24, that the hook is lateral spaced from). Additionally each hook 24 can have pivotal movement upon the axis 38 to provide an additional dimension of its transverse adjustment. When a book 51 is installed in the book holder 7, the second portion 32 will be positioned to extend between the cover and binding of the book 51 to retain the same. The above noted configuration can accept hard back or paperback publications. The transverse adjustment allows the book holder 7, 17 to accommodate Bibles or books of varying thicknesses.
Adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the female frame member 10 is as a male frame member 50. The male frame member 50 is telescopically insertably positioned within the female frame member 10 to allow the book holder 7 to adjust to Bibles or books 51 of different lengths. As shown the book holder can adjust to book lengths of approximately 4½ to 9 inches.
The female frame member 10 has an optional slot 52 for receipt of a screw clamping device 54. In the embodiment 17 of
Pivotally connected to the female frame member 10 by a hinge 58 is a wing 60. The wing 60 is typically connected to a binder portion 62 of a folding bookcase 64. The book case 64 binder portion 62 has a series of elastic bands 66 to receive the inserted wing 60. In alternative embodiments a ferromagnetic frame member or wing may be magnetically retained to the binder portion. In still another embodiment a hook and loop fastener material can be utilized to make the connection between the book holder in binder portion of the book case.
While preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed, it is to be understood it has been described by way of example only, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as it is encompassed in the following claims.
