Claims
- 1. A control system for controlling first and second cylinders that change a boom length and angle relative to a reference, respectively, comprising:
- a first valve associated with and operating the first cylinder;
- a second valve associated with and operating the second cylinder;
- means for commanding movement of the boom;
- a controller coupled between the commanding means and the first and second valves for controlling the valves; and
- means coupled to the controller for causing the latter to operate in one of two modes of operation, one of the modes comprising independent control over each cylinder by its associated valve and the other of the modes comprising coordinated control over both cylinders by their associated valves so that a particular point of the boom is moved substantially along either of a desired horizontal and vertical path.
- 2. The control of claim 1, wherein the controller comprises a microprocessor.
- 3. The control of claim 1, wherein the commanding means comprises a joystick.
- 4. The control of claim 1, wherein the causing means comprises a manually-actuable switch.
- 5. A control for controlling first and second cylinders that vary a boom length and angle relative to a reference, respectively, comprising;
- first and second manual valves coupled to the first and second cylinders, respectively;
- first and second electrohydraulic (EH) valves coupled to the first and second cylinders, respectively;
- a processor coupled to the first and second EH valves;
- means for commanding movement of the boom; and
- a switch coupled to the processor for causing the control to operate in one of two modes of operation, a first mode of operation comprising independent control over the cylinders by the commanding means and the manual valves so that the angle of the boom can be changed independently of the length of the boom and vice versa and a second mode of operation comprising coordinated control over both cylinders by the EH valves, the processor and the commanding means so that a particular point of the boom is moved substantially along a straight-line path.
- 6. The control of claim 5, wherein the commanding means comprises a joystick.
