Claims
- 1. A method of preparing a boron cross-linking solution for aqueous treating fluids for treating oil and gas reservoirs comprising: reacting critic, lactic or tartaric acids in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, or water soluble amines to obtain an aqueous solution of the corresponding critic, lactic or tartaric acid salt; slurrying sufficient boric acid or borax in the aqueous solution of citric, lactic or tartaric acid salt to obtain boron measured as boric acid at a concentration of from 1% to 25% by weight; and adjusting the pH of the boron crosslinking solution to at least 6.0.
- 2. A method of preparing a boron cross-linking solution of aqueous treating fluids for treating oil and gas reservoirs comprising: reacting citric, lactic or tartaric acids in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, or water soluble amines to obtain as aqueous solution of the corresponding citric, lactic or tartaric acid salt; slurrying sufficient boric acid or borax in the aqueous solution of the corresponding citric, lactic or tartaric acid salt; slurrying sufficient boric acid or borax in the crosslinking solution, when mixed with said aqueous treating fluids, establishes a cationic boning site on the polymer in which the carboxyl group and the hydroxyl group of the polymer share the corresponding cation.
- 3. A method of preparing a boron crosslinking solution for aqueous treating fluids for treating oil and gas reservoirs comprising: reacting an alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, or water soluble amines to obtain an aqueous solution of the corresponding alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid salt; slurrying sufficient boric acid or borax in an aqueous solution of the alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid salt to establish a molar ratio of alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid to boron of from 0.1-10.0 to 1.0; and adjusting the pH of the boron crosslinking solution to at least 6.0.
- 4. A method of preparing a boron cross-linking solution for aqueous treating fluids for treating oil and gas reservoirs comprising: reacting an alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, or water soluble amines to obtain an aqueous solution of the corresponding alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid salt; slurrying sufficient boric acid or borax in the aqueous solution of the alpha hydroxy carboxylic acid salt to obtain boron measured as boric acid at a concentration of from to 25% by weight; and adjusting the pH of the boron crosslinking solution to at least 6.0.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the boric acid is at a concentration of from 10% to 20% by weight and the pH of the solution is adjusted between 6.5 and 7.0.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the alkali metal hydroxide is selected from the group consisting of sodium and potassium hydroxides.
- 7. The method of claim 4 wherein 1% to 10% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is added.
- 8. The method of claim 4 wherein 1% to 10% Glycerine is added.
- 9. The method of claim 4 wherein 1% to 10% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and Glycerine is added.
